Rattle

Hey guys i have an 03 GT and put some flowmaster 40 series mufflers on her.. Besides that its stock, isncce i just got it 5 days ago. Anyway im g etting a rattle occaisonally from the right passanger side muffler. Any ideas. Seems llike the muffler expands when it heats up it touches one of the brackets that vibrates. Thats my only idea. Any suggestions? BTW sorry out the bad spelling, i have a broken wrist and this one hand typing isnt too fun

Thanks guys

Joe

i cant say for sure whats rattling but my guess is the muffler hanger is not attached properly or the muffler is hitting something it shouldn't.

yea the hanger is def on properly, before they lowered the car at the shop i made sure it was on right. Seems like when it expands it hits a bracket.

sometimes the weld is on when you leave the shop but if your driving down the road with a fresh weld it might come off...especially if it was done a little carelessly. its happend to me a couple of times so take it back and get it checked out...if its still on right....well...i dont know what to tell ya..

yea it seems the rattle only happens when i take a hard left turn, or hit a bump. So im 90% sureits not the welds, and that its just hitting something
i need to get ubnder there and figure it out, but i have a broken wrist so i cant right now.

yeah, ive been having the same problem with my 2001 GT, except i still have to stock exhaust. i took my car to a lift, looked under it, and shook everything, and no noise, seems like it only happens driving around. so any help would be appreciated by me too.

I have the same problem on mine. It sounds like it is hitting some type of heat shield. But I don't even know it they have a heat shield. I took care of the problem by turning the radio up. Works everytime.

From what i hear, the muffler expands from the heat like all metal, and if you look closely, before its expanded theres a bracket right by ity thats sepertaed by under an inch. I guess when it expands it hits that?

it wouldnt expand a whole inch though...thats a LOT. even half an inch or a quarter of an inch is a lot...when metal expands its not sooooo significant..maybe a few cm. but who knows?

when they put the new mufflers on they might have not got the hanger tight enough and it is just rubbing against the mody kit or the rest of the exhaust.

Yea, that actually might be it, me and my friend took a look at it yesterday and he says the flows might be a size too big. He was supposed to install them in his his 87 camaro iroc z before the engine blew and gave them to me. It sounds great though, ill get a video up by tonight or tommorow. But yea, thanks for all the siggestions guys, because i honestly hae no idea what the problem is. I worked as a mechanic off the books for like a year, and have no idea.

Take it back to the shop that did the work and have them fix it!! It did happen right away, so they should be obligated to fix the problem.

Yea, i have to go to the shop whenever i get a chance. If the shop i went to doesnt know how to fix it, ill go someplace else, and hopefully it can get taken care of. Its not THAT bad but it can get annoying. Every LEFT TURN!!! But i guss its the small price to pay for a kickass exaust sound.
