not clutch if itr smells like rubber. The clutch smells wicked bad and almost makes me wanna gag.

I would suggest just letting it warm up and getting under it somehow, you might be burning sometthing thats useless, or maybe something expensive such as a o2 sensor harness.

Just look around and then give us a better idea. We cant really help, we cant see it.... you can.

One time I was in a work truck and I smelled burning rubber so I pulled over and popped the hood and the engine was on fire. The alternator froze up and then blew up. All I had was some duct tape I found under the seat, a coat hanger and some 4 guage electrical wire. So i fashioned a makeshift alternator with the materials I had and then I drove back to austin (the belt had broken so I used my shoelaces to fashion a new one)......j/k except for the fire part.

That really bad.

The rubber smell is just some smell left over from all those burn out you do.

haha macgyver.... good story, you had me going for a sec, i was actually thinking of how to make a makeshift alternator.

Could it be a rubber hose or something burning/rubbing against something? I'm assuming you looked under the hood for anything.... maybe next time the burning smell comes immediately pull over and look for some smoke, or where the smell is strongest. let us know what it turns out to be.

Do a damn good visual, and check your belt. It could be slipping under hight stress or you could have a frozen idler or a/c clutch they don't always squeal. W.P.

It sounds like ur belt is slipping on one of ur accesory pulleys. I would check to c if the belt is getting worn, in which case it may snap: or if one of the accesory pulleys r seizing up in which case it may catch on fire (NOT GOOD).

The reason the smell is comin from the firewall is because the smell gets trapped in the open spaceof the firewall, all of the other area is open to the wind to blow it away.
