Cold Start Idle Noise
My 2001 GT has about 115,000 on it, all the stock parts are still doing fine but now out here on LI when its 9 degrees at 2am, I start it up and let it warm and there is a rather loud squeeking sound coming from an area that sounds like behind the left fender so I was thinking clutch..its a sporadic metallic rubbing sound that slowely fades as the car warms up. Its driving fine, aside from the gear box and clutch being stiff and sluggish in the cold before its been driven a few miles its ok. I had the same problem with my 96 GT when it would idle in the cold. The thing is the only part I could see making that sound from the clutch would be the either of the bearings...cause in neutral obviously the clutch is disengaged. I just had the oil changed and my block is fine theres no fluid leaks I have no exhaust leaks or loose or severed hoses that I know of I dont really think its an engine sound again it sounds a lot like its coming from where the clutch assembly would be. After the car is warmed up and been driven a few miles it idles quietly...again, it only does this in the very cold weather but tonight it was a little louder and more frequent than past cold days in the 3 years ive had this thing.
