I've Decided

Well for a long time i've been wanting to do heads and cams, but i've now resigned to a kenne bell.

On their website its listed as $5k for the full kit including the intercooler.

How hard is this to install yourself? I know pretty much the basic stuff about cars and own basic hardware tools. What all tools will i need?

I dont know from experience but from the design of the kenne bell you basically just replace the intake manifold. Long as you can use a ratchet you should be fine. Id make sure theres no tricks or anythin from some experienced guys before you start just to be safe, but I wouldnt think youd have too much trouble im saving up for my charger right now. gl wit it

Call KB, they have all of the install instructions and everything. They will be able to tell you every tool and every step in the process. I would think you will need some simple wiring stuff for the boost a spark and boost a pump. But other than that, some simple ratchet and wrenches should be plenty. But I would talk to them and have them send you the install instructions just in case.

That sounds like a good idea. I'll probably have some buddies help out too.

The install is not that bad...

Decent instructions...

Just make sure to change the plugs and gap accordingly...

I believe the centri is easier to install. the intercooled kit takes about 10 hours to install, soldering all connections etc. the instructions are are real complete as is the kit. you will need some ultrablack sealer, spark plugs, solder and antifreeze. they supply everything else including allen wrench's,sand paper, split loom, wire ties, hoses, bap, chip, belt and all bolts and clamps etc

Its a great kit!! very awesome directions, with pictures! You will need a few things as the above poster has said. And it will take a long time.

I always get nervous when i put a new part on. I swear i heard like 20 new knocks and bangs after i installed my CAI. For some reason i get scared that i did something wrong. Couldnt imagne how nervous i would be butting a spuer charger on!

He sends you a 1/2'' book of instructions well written. Ya I agree about a day to install just take your time, and you will need another person as the blower weighs 75+ pounds. he even sends you the allen wrenches and a bolt guide. I have the 2.6 on my 4.6 The only thing they missed in my knit was the o-rings for the heater pipe.

Would it be easier than a header install?

Yeah, when Doc was on here he said his KB install was pretty simple. From what he said it was very straight forward.

This is the way i was thining of going as well. Do you have to upgrade the heads/cams or can you just slap this baby on there and rip.

Oh, and let me know when the knew flyover KB vid is up .

Seriuosly though, say on a pretty much stock 2v, what kinda power gains are gained from the KB? And how long can the stock engine hold up?

Thanks, Mike

if your not mechanically inclined then it will be pretty tough.
i'm about to finish out my supercharger install, but i worked on mine
a little at a time.
the small stuff is what is a pain in the ass.my intercooler was not that complicated but putting all the piping in was a royal pain.
here are some pics.

Haha i'll most def do a fly over of a KB 2.1L, but this time at the camera!

At 9psi, about 400 give or take RWHP... good with stock internals

with stock bottom end you have to stay at or under 400rwhp.
you can get a turn key long block all forged, patriot stage 2 heads blower cams
for around 5500.00 which is what i am working on now.

If you get a modular forged long block say... off MMR will a KB still bolt right up to it w/ no problems?
