ford whoops.... my bad. COBRA OWNERS NEED TO READ!!
so every one knows 99-04 cobras have irs. well ford made an uh oh with some of the bolts that connect the suspension to the frame. im sure some of you know this but im also sure some of you dont because i recently found it out. basicly the forward irs bolts are the wrong size for the bushing hole....12mm. the correct size for this hole is 14mm. this missized bolt as you can immagion allows for the entire rear suspension to move and "slap arround". it is felt inside the car as a heavy clunk or jolt as the car engages in a gear or accelerates or decels. the correct size bolts can be found here:
Ford Racing 14mm IRS Subframe Front Mounting Bolt for 99-04 Cobras - FMS-M14-109BOLT Ford Racing IRS Subframe Front Mounting Nut for 99-04 Ford Cobra - FMS-M14NUT you will need 2 of each to do the job. it took like 2 weeks for me to get them but it was worth it. i had the bolts installed in a shop for $20 under the table to the mechanic.... i would recomend doing this because the new bolt is the EXACT size of the hole and that meens that the holes need to be lined up perfictly. i can not imagion doing this on the ground because they had a big ass pry bar that would not fit underjack stands. it took about 30 min to install and most of my suspension noise was gone. i say most because my car has 96,000 mi on it and im sure the bushings are soft from moving so much and being rubber and all. all in all this fix was well worth it! here is a pic of the old and new bolts side by side so you can see the diffrence. (old on the left new on the right). also a pics of the exact location of the bolts. hope this helps some of you guys out with your irs troubles!
