crate motors are easily $7000+ you could build an engine for cheaper or around that price, and superchargers are only $5000.

it always has and probably always will be much cheaper to build the engine you have...the only guys who actually seem to be runnning crate engines are guys with really deep pockets.

Also, you can likely find a used engine for much much cheaper as well..

mainly because your not going to get a 4.6L whether its bored and stroked or whatever thats going to make 500HP. you would probably be lucky to see 400 out of a 2V, and maybe 430 from a 4V.

the only replacement for displacement is boost. so without it, these smaller motors jsut dont make the power, much less the torque.

yeah but you gotta be able to hold it. a $5000 supercharger is useless if you want anything over 400 hp because you'd spend more than the price of the supercharger just upgrading your engine, it all costs too much.

then youd be happy with a supercharger.
turbos are nice, but impractical for a dd. not because it isnt efficient, but just because its so expensive and hard to maintain usually.

a stock GT motor would hold 500 crank HP, which is about 425RWHP for quite awhile.

i'd trust 425RWHP on a GT bottom end long before i would a 99/01 cobra bottom end.

turbo's make the most power, but you would never be done with it. always need re tuneing, and all kinds of other stuff.

so i agree 100% its not right for a DD. they jsut never run perfect for some reason on mustangs.

the crank is not forged on the 99/01 cobras. You're thinking of the Mach 1

i have a 97 cobra crank, and a 99 cobra crank sitting beside me. there is no doubt that they are a forged crank.

if i could find my camera i would take a pic.

I don't know if I am remembering this correctly but I think some of the 99-01 Cobras got forged cranks and some didn't. I believe it came down to leftovers from old cars. Once they were used up they used unforged ones. I could be completely wrong but I thought I read that somewhere.

If you add the cost of the shop that is required to build a top kick motor, the cost is far less to buy one built.....
