Teksid Build

Hey guys I've been kicking around the idea of doing an all motor build up using the famous teksid aluminum block. I found one at a local junkyard for $300.00 its the entire shortblock with 130,000 miles.... So my questions are for the experienced engine gurus. My car is an 01 Gt I wanna stick with the 2V setup...so can i just transfer everything over to the teksi block or is there somethings i need to keep from the markVIII. This build is gonna be smething i gradually do over the next year or two not something over night. I'll start with the block. Get it prepped and i was thinking of boring it .20 over because i hear anymore than that the walls get too thin. Then when the funds suffice pistons, crank, rods, heads....you know .. my car only has 36k miles on it so i have plenty of time before i need to swap plus its not a daily driver i just thought this would be a cool idea i didnt know if anyone has done it yet. Next question.. with the engine still in the smashed car....how can I tell if it is definately a teskid block? The cover says (4.6L 4 Cam V8) and the intake is like aluminum I believe...I have the Vin off of the dash i didnt know if i could tell from the vin or not...but if this is the correct motor i think $300.00 sounds like a steal with the entire short block... so does this sound like a good idea or no?...thanks guys

just make sure its one from a cobra, the lincoln teksids vary slightly, and are not as good as the cobra.

look under the intake manifold into the intake valley of the block, if its a teksid, it will have a squared grid pattern, if its a WAP, it will have a damond grid patternl

ill try to find what the difference's are between the cobra and the lincoln.

300 is also kinda high, for about $350 you can get a 99 cobra shortblock which will have the cobra froged crank you can use, aswell as the teksid block.

on 99/01 cobra though you have to check the grid pattern and make sure its a teksid, some of them had WAP's.

The block is the exact same block between the MK VIII and the Cobra. There are other differences, but the block is the same. The crank definitely is not, but I wouldn't use that heavy Cobra crank on an naturally aspirated setup anyway.

Also, I thought $300 is a fine price. Just my opinion though. I mean, he is getting that with no shipping costs involved and that makes a difference.

If it was me, it was in good shape and I wanted it, I woudl buy it.

But that's just me.

Okay, theres definately some mis-information here. Mark VIII's from 93-98 all used the Teksid block. Its exactly identical to the 96-98 cobra blocks. The heads, are also the same. The intakes vary, as does the fuel system, and cams. In general, the blocks are the exact same. Pull the intake off, and look in the valley.. if you see 6 large structural ribs horizontally... its a Teksid. If you see 10 smaller ribs, its a WAP. Theres a 99% chance its a Teksid if the car hasnt been jacked with. If the block is in good condition, thats a steal at 300 bucks.

its a good deal man, you should get it and forge the internals. you'd be able to handle almost as much boost as you can possibly throw at it. I would definitely guess that it is a teksid. For 300 bucks its a pretty good deal. I would listen to the guy with editor under his avatar before many of the other people on here who give misinformation quite frequently

Next question. If I build this primarily for N/a but ...on down the road I decide...hmmm maybe i need FI.. Which compression ratio would be versatile for both.

i'd definately keep it under 10:1 if you ever plan to go with any kind of boost

You could get away with 10:1 for N/A now, and down the road run a centrifugal supercharger. The Mach 1 guys do it all the time. If your planning on turbocharging, 10:1 is definately high for a street engine.
