Yup, my 2nd gear only does it like 3-5 shifts after a cold start up. fine after it warms up...

do you guys think it could have something to do with the tranny fluid being cold when i start, then as it heats up, it reduces the shitty shift?

the synchros suck in the t3650 in 2nd and 3rd gear. You have nothing to worry about Manic. The t3650 is a decent tranny. It gets the job done.

The reason so many people have the problem with 2nd and 3rd is because alot of people like to ram it in there as fast and as hard as they can. Most of the time theyll bend a fork, which can cause it to come out of gear. Just shifting fast but lightly and youll save that tranny for alot longer.

Also if you feel like it a constant problem, try doing a tranny oil change. I used the Mobil 1 ATF and I havent had a problem since.

Also that little grinding is the dog teeth aligning. thast what causes the grinding noise. just let the teether grab and lightly put it into gear

the oil turns into a jelly when its cold. thats a little over exaggerated, but you get the idea. it thickens up alot when its realyl cold.

They all really suck in the entire scheme of things .. but they do get the job done when treated right .. my tranny went out at 24,000 miles and 37 days after my warranty was up but i reported all the problems 4 months earlier and made sure it was noted after they said they couldnt find anything wrong with it ... So when it went out .. I took it in with the copy of my service record i made them print out and after raising all hell .. finally got them to cover the entire rebuild at their cost .. the good part was that I stood over their shoulder every day making sure they actually did the work .. and finally I walked outta there with a transmission that works better than they day I got the car ...
As before I always let the car warm up before drives esp when its cold .. since the swap the car now is on royal purple ... and I always make sure I engage 2 forward gears before reverse and I haven't noticed one problem with the car since ..

i rebuilt my tranny my self it actually wasnt that bad just take alot of pictures with every step of disasembly and it is easier with 2 peolpe and an impact wrench. everything shifts perfect now. also though i changed all my shift forks to these special forks made my hanson motorsports i think its called, they are super heavy duty.

yea my t3650 if messed up to. 3rd grinds going in about 80% of the time and 5th houls like a freaking banshee! i heard doing the t56 is a waste of money for just an extra gear. I was interested in it and when i called to get more info on a t56 the sales rep. said he did the converstion on his 03 and told me it really wasnt worth it. Does anyone know of a place that sells beefed up t3650s or new ones for decent price?

(I know this is the 99-04 forum, but oh well)
3rd gear in my car is sometimes hard to get in gear all the way. There are 2 bumps (? clicks? cant really describe it) for each gear and sometimes 3rd doesnt want to go in all the way. I've accidentally let the clutch out when it's only over the 1st bump and it makes a hellacious grinding noise. What might this be? Synchro? I have a short throw shifter of unknown origins as well.

if you plan on modding your car out,it is better in the long run to go with an aftermarket tranny,i was quoted 1900.00 from brothers.

2nd gear is the biggest problem for me.. i get the same clicking noise as you humjaba. but i also need to replace the binding clutch cable.. so that might be part of the problem
