Threw My Serpentine Belt Again

Probably the same place on the same road (probably the same puddle) as I did to years ago, I did it again just now. I hit the puddle and threw my belt, which if anyone has done it before knows how much that sucks...losing your steering, brakes, lights and control of the car in the rain. Luckily I got it home, again, it was only up the road. I know how to put it back on but thats not my problem, I wanna know if anyone knows a way to keep this from happening, cause you cant always avoid puddles. Is there a pulley kit I can get that will replace my stock setup and keep the belt more securely on?

I haven't heard of anyone having this problem.... Check your tensioner and then check to make sure your pulleys are still lined up.

he shouldnt have this problem at all. sounds like what was stated earlier, tensioner or alignment. only other thing that i can think of is if you have an acessory pulley draging, and as soon as it gets a chance to slip, it throws it.

Thanks. No its the stock belt for the 4.6L SOHC engine...Actually, when this happened the first time, I got a new belt from Ford thinking it mayve been wear on the belt that caused it to slip when the water hit it, but obviously hitting a puddle hard enough is causing any belt I have on there to slip. Speaking of which...Could someone find for me and post a frontal view of a 2001-2004 4.6L engine so I could refer to it to put this belt back on?? Last time I just copied a photo off of an ebay auction but nobody selling this engine has a frontal view with the belt alignment to work from. As for what you guys were saying, my tensioner pulley seems fine, its sitting correctly and I actually (around the same time this first happened) replaced the smooth idler pulley cause the bearing burned when the engine got waterlogged one day (dont ask). It was shortly after that actually now that I think about it that my belt slipped. I mayve just solved my own problem here...Ill take a look at the idler pulley...But please if anyone could post a frontal picture of this engine Id appreciate it. Thanks.

Yeah, +2 on the tensioner and alignment. Just spin each pulley by hand (except for the crank of course) and they should all be free spinning. If not,you have a problem.

why not the crank? if you cant spin that, then you are a little pud the compressor pulley wont/shouldnt have any load on it till the clutches kick in.

Actually I was reading up on this and its normal for these engines in wet weather for the belt to slip off..They recommend a revised tensioner pulley and or water pump...regardless, Im having a hell of a time getting this thing back on. I did it the first time ok but that was two years ago, for some reason I cant even come close to getting it back on this time. I can move the tensioner pulley with a ratchet, but I cant lock the thing foward to use both hands to lay the belt...does anyone know how to do that?
