Tri-ax install


So I got the Steeda tri-ax from my local mustang shop. I was talking to them about the install and they said that I should keep the shift stops in. HMUSN - I know you were saying that the t-56 has its own internal stops. But I don't know what to do and I don't want to screw up the tranny....please help!

take the 4 bolts out, remove stock shifter, clean RTV silicone resedue off the tranny, apply light layer of new RTV sylicone, set new shifter in place, and torque to about 10FT LBS. not too tight, you can and will strip the trans.

Remove the stops. HMUSN is correct, they are not necessary. I removed mine on my MGW.

GS - but you have a GT. They have a different tranny than a 03 Cobra. But I do believe you.

Chronic - You didn't mention the shift stops on your install instructions...lol.

as far as i know, only the T45 needs the stops on the shifter due to lack of internal stops like on the 3650. i think the T56 also has internal stops...

his car is going to have a T3650, so he would have to remove the shit stops too.

You are correct, I missed that. I'm not sure which trany would com in the 03 Cobra. I just pulled out my MGW installation guide and they show that the 3650 and the T56 have internal stops and the supplied shifter stops should be removed.

yes, the 03 has a T56 6 speed with internal stops, and you have a T3650 5 speed with internal stops.

I don't know do you?

If you do, take them out. If you have them in and they are not adjusted just right then you can actually damage the tranny.

the 4 bolts on the shifter arent, but the 4 bolts on the little dust cover provide resistance the whole time they come out.

the dust boot i beleave uses little 7, or 8MM bolts, and then the shifter uses a 13MM.
