01 bullitt, questions about modding

Hey guys, just recently got an 01 DHG Bullitt and had a couple questions concerning mods....

-From what I've been reading about gears, most people are saying 4.10's unless you go FI. I may get blown down the line (no pun intended) but it would be at least a year. Is there that much of a difference between 3.73's and 4.10's? I live a few hours from the nearest track so I wouldn't be doing a ton of drags, mostly highway and stoplight stuff. Would 4.10's be best for that, or perhaps another ratio.

-Big difference between a JLT CAI and getting a good filter and making my own? I saw on the JLT website for a bullitt gains of 12ish whp, I dunno how true that is. Couple friends are saying its not worth the extra money to buy the JLT for around 200 when we can make one for much cheaper and be the same thing.

-I'm thinking about starting off with a catback, then longtubes and H pipe later on. Any recommendations on who is good, if longtubes are even a good idea, so on? Tubing is 2.5 if I remember correctly, is that still good if I go s/c'ed down the line? I know a guy who has a shop nearby, thinking about getting a custom exhaust for cheap that way.

thanks for your time

I say go with 3.73's especially if you do alot of highway driving. I run them and they are a good all around gear. 1st gear is already pretty short, dont think you would use it with 4.10's

I say just buy the intake, it will be much better quality, net better gains. And Ive never seen a homemade intake that doesnt look like crap.

Catback is a good start, Id stick with a good brand such as Magnaflow, Pypes, Flowmaster etc. And those will work good with a s/c. Long tube headers will give you more gains in power, but will give you more drivability issuse with clearance, not mention if you ever have to do a clutch.

Yeah, I keep hearing get 4.10's, get 4.10's but i think 3.73's will work better with my driving.

I agree with you on the intake, I just wasn't sure if there was any real difference in just making your own...

Yeah I have heard about the funness of LH's and clutches. Should those be done at the same time if I go FI down the line?

I agree with Matt on the 3.73's for you especially if your going FI. And i would get an upgraded clutch also if you plan on FI.

Didn't the bullitt's come with an upgraded catback? Not saying that a new one wouldn't be better.

you could just get the 4:10s now..from what i here the only diff. is the pull in 5th is a bit harder...than when you save up the money to go fi switch to 3.73.

And not so sure on building home made intake..thats alittle "ricey" to me. You got a sweet ride so dont go cheap on that stuff. Not saying buy a $500 intake..look for a used one. i whish i would have just looked and waited for a good used one.
