Steps For Properly Cleaning MAF?

First of all, I have read where throttle body cleaner is used for cleaning the MAF. I do not have throttle body cleaner as the auto store here on base doesn't sell it. So, what could I use to clean my MAF instead? And, what are the proper steps for doing so? I certainly don't want to cause more harm than good by not cleaning it correctly.
Thanks!

No you don't want to use that, use electrical contact cleaner to clean the heated wire... it leaves no residue and is safe. Some people also use a q-tip to gently wipe the wire off, I think that's unecessary. Just spray it with the electrical cleaner and put it back on.

Sweet! Now if I could just get my hands on some of that electrical cleanser. Would Isopropyl Alcohol suffice instead?

I believe so, the main thing is that it will clean and won't leave a residue. The local parts stores carry the electrical contact cleaner, Autozone, Advance Auto, etc. all have it.

Theres a cleaner out there specifically for MAF's. Its made by CRC. When i cleaned mine, i just removed the intake, took off the MAF, put it on a shop towel and spray away, but be very very careful when cleaning it. The are these two delicate wires, those are the sensors that you want to clean, just be careful because it would be a costly mistake. So yea CRC Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner, they have the stuff at autozone.

I do not believe it would make any power difference and even it if it did it would not be noticable so I would leave the screen in place

even better instead of an intake mount a leaf blower to the car with the funel in the throttle body. ive seen a video of a truck gettting 70-80hp out of it lol! .....no joke

but dont do it lol unless u know how to have the blower fixed to blow at the right time...fit under the hood with the engine
