roll bar/cage

now that i have chose to go ahead and build, i have ran into something else i have to buy. i am going to have to do a roll cage set up, and have it installed before i can go race at the tracks. anyone knows who all makes them for the new edge cars? only ones i see are from jegs, maximum motorsports, and steeda. talking to a track official, he wants to see me run a 6-point cage for the times that are expected. i want a removable cross bar and swing out door bars, and he has no problems with that. anyone running a cage, or knows a manufacture that has a good cage?

i wish i didnt need one, kind of sucks to have to install something like that in a car that will be drivn frequently. you ever race at gateway international? i was thinking of making a trip there this year if possible. i was wondering how strict they are with their rules on cages.

the MM one is nice, just make sure you weld the rear hoops, and its NRHA legal to 10.49. i think it requires the harness bar to be fixed aswell, not a bolt in. you wouldnt want anybody in the back with a cage anyway, too dangerous with all the bars aroudn them.

Id say contact a good performance shop and see what they say. You might want to get a custom one built.

does the MM not come ready to bolt in? i know the steeda does. the cross bar has to be welded to be nhra leagal. i do not think swing out door bars are leagal either, but will have to double check.

yes, the MM comes ready to bolt right in, but in order to be legal, the rear hoops must be welded, which will probably cost $100 or so. the door bars are completely legal. the just the one with fixed cross bar, and weld the hoops, and your good to 10.49 after that you need a 8 point which you can always have the 2 points welded in, and its good to 9's.

I would highly suggest getting a custom cage built. I wouldn't trust those pre-fab bolt-in deals. Think about it.....you're trusting your life with something that was "generally" made for your car. Also, there is a chance that when you go to get it certified by a NHRA official, it may not pass.

If you're in the Jonesboro area (N.W. AR) I'm guessing...I would call Bridge Racing. Those guys don't cut any corners and do awesome work for a reasonable amount of money.

hey, you're back. jonesboro is east of here, i live in bentonville. thats a couple hour drive. i just need something that is going to get me to pass tech inspectons. the main track i go to is a little track and nowhere nowhere near nhra certified. my main goal is to have a fun and great street car. i dont really want to make a race car out of it and take the fun or functionality out of it.

well since he doesnt have a cage yet, im assuming he's not much faster than mid 11's.

customs cages are also $1800+ compared to $400 for a MM that will get him by. my just 8 point cage im having put in is going to run me $2400, thats 8 point chromoly, with swing out door bars. also good to mid 9's though.

Why are they $1800 the material doesn't cost that much.

theres alot of time that goes into fabricating a custom cage. $1800 is the CHEAPEST you'll get a custom cage for. add swing outs, and your already over $2k for just a 6 point mild steel.

a few of the bigger shops around me that only do custom cages wanter $4-8K for a custom 8 point. but theres a guy that does alot of cage wrok for the local cobra club, and he's doing mine for $2400.
