3.73s or 3.90s?

iight im barely getting there but right before i finish maybe a couple car lengths im hitting the rev limiter in the 1320'. i wonder if i should look into 3.73s or if 3.90s will do it. though if i do 3.90s those gears cost more and i don't know if thats a big enough difference from the 4.10s to make me finish right where i want to be. what do you guys think.

also mind you that over the winter im adding stage 2 cams, stall converter, P&P my heads, headers and i'll be hooking up better with some suspension mods. thanks!!

Im assuming you've got 4.10's now?

Don't go lower. I did it, and ended up switching back. Get a taller tire for the track instead, or raise your rev limiter.

You've got me thinking now. Do I stick 4.10s in my daily driver boosted mustang? Since I'm trapping at 110 now, I think I could probably do really well with them at the strip. I'd really like to test drive a mustang with 4.10s though.

I trapped at 115 with 4.10's hitting the rev limiter for 150 feet and 122mph with 3.73's right at the rev limiter, this is with street tires. Even though I trapped much faster with the 3.73's and hit the limiter with 4.10's, my 1/4 times were identical (11.90's).

Once I started running slicks, I ran a best of 11.80 @ 116mph (1.7x 60's) with the 3.73's. Dumbfounded as to why I only could gain .1 off my times with slicks, even though i was coming off the line at 6000 rpm, I realized I was pulling the car down out of the powerband after launching - and slowing down until the revs picked up. I put the 4.10's back in, and the car launched HARD w/ 1.5x 60's and an 11.47 @ 120.51 mph. The car picked up .4 by going back to 4.10's and 4mph. The gears helped keep the car in the powerband, attributing to the extra speed.

PS - even with all my mods I got 22mph on the highway a few months ago, cruising at 70mph.

I've got alittle, then gears are setup tight though. You should have any noise if setup properly and using FMS.

yeah i have 4.10s and im trapping at 110 now...

i have a few things i plan on doing like stall converter, cams+P&P my heads, suspension work and possible headers. That was making me thing with better traction and more power I would be hitting the rev limiter alot sooner. I do have a diablosport and will raise it for now and then see what happens after this winter. i mean i love the 4.10s and the way they accelerate the car hard but i didn't want to be spraying into the rev limit. i really need a dyno tune but i might as well wait for that when i get the cams and head work done.

I'd get the other mods first and then re-evaluate what gear is needed. In the meantime, just bump the rev limiter by about 200

i went from 4.10's to 3.73's. i picked up 2mph and dropped .2 in the 1/4. i was running out of usable power with the 4.10's and i am glad i went to the 3.73.

i just noticed you were an auto, i would personally stay with the 4.10 if i had a set up like yours.

attached is a spread sheet i made... comparing two sets of gears... you can look at the difference in MPH that youll have then at the bottom if you know your torque (or just guess to see the trend) you can see what the torque difference at the wheels will be... i made this when i was getting the gearing for my rear end behind my c-4 but it was easily updated for the 3650 (if you have anything different just change the ratios about 25 cells down)
