Requirements For A Hand Held Programmer

Greetings Mustang Faithful,
I've got a 2002 Mustang GT and I just put on a K&N cold air kit and a Magnaflow cat back exhaust.
Some articles I read indicate that I should be changing my tune via a hand held programmer but others say that the computer is adaptable enough to change the fuel delivery to keep the car at the ideal air / fuel ratio.
What is accurate?
Thanks !
Ken

The ECU should be able to keep the a/f to an acceptable level, though it wouldn't be perfect. Tuning on the dyno will definately help you get a few more reliable ponies out of the current tune.
