Cam Questions

Ok guys I have a few questions about cams... here I go...

First, what does it mean by stall. Like when you are looking at the description and requirements for different cams it says you must have like a 2500+ stall. What is that?

Second, Should I save myself some money and install them myself or take it somewhere. I am not a car expert, just an ordinary home mechanic with a little more than general knowledge about cars.

Third, What do you think the is the best stage for my car. I have a CAI, Full exhaust, Gears, Throttle Body and Plenum are almost here, and Pulleys. Any brand suggestions?

Thanks everyone. Sorry its so many questions.

cams, stall

stall = tourq converter setting
and you have an 01 gt you can not use use the stage 2 or 3 cams do to the the amount of lift the cams will provide evan witha stage 1 cam you may need to see if there will be any piston to valve contact
some one please correct this if i am mistaken

You are correct about the piston to valve clearance, however the Stage 2 or 3 cams can work, you would need to buy different cam gears to adjust the timing and everything so that they will clear. I'm not sure where you can get them but if you call Comp cams they prolly have them, if not they will be able to point you in the right direction. Let me know how things go.

yeah youcan use the stage 2 but i dont know about the 3s. just make sure that even if you do the 1s, to replace the valve springs. go with comps, they make the best ones out there for the cash right now. maikey is right about having to go with different cam gears.
