wrong section i know, but need help here

car is a 1999 Grand am gt
ok so i just did a lim fix on my friends car, we went out to make sure every thing was ok...but while we were out we decided to play in the snow that st. louis has right now...anyway we were turning left, in the gas sliding...when the "move" was done...no power steering! we came back to the garage, the car is in the air and you can go stop to stop without hearing any power steering noise (the maxed out sound you hear at left or right steering stop/max out point)...im thinking pump. any suggestions before i go spend more money.?

My buddy blew out the PS pump doing doughnuts in his truck. Check the fluid level first.
