Haynes Repair Manual says 6.6 pints (2pints=quart) so about 3 and a half quarts (just buy the four quart bottle)

I have a t45 and just changed the tranny fluid about a month ago

I used Mercon automatic transmission fluid. Had a little left over in the 4 qt bottle. My brother-in-law questioned using automatic transmission fluid in a manual, but that's what the Hayne's and original car manual had written.

(It also states Mercon V fluid is not interchangeable with regular Mercon fluid)

Is amsoil the best option? Do we need friction additives or is that only for rear end?
