i spend the money and get nice rags and cloths and such form autozone. i get a different rag/cloth for each chemical and surface. thats me tho. im particular like that. nothing beats a nice hnad job lol. buffers and powerballs either dont do a good job or theyll leave swirl marks.

Alright, a lot of good info in this thread- I have chrome wheels, and I think the salt and snow gave my chromies some surface rust... it comes off after about 12,000 wipes with rim cleaner... anybody else have a better idea, or am I stuck with the elbow grease?

It looks like elbow grease is the way to go suprajay79. The debate now is which cleaner and method provides the best results.

This weekend I'm going to try a toothbrush, rag, and a ton of mothers. I'll post the results and pictures if it works out.

I try and try to clean my polished cobra Y2K's and they still look like monkey butt. I use mothers aluminum polish and still nothing. Any tips and good products to use? I can't get the grime off the groves of the spokes or get a strong shine. I don't have a power ball and clean by hand which may be the problem but I dunno. These are my first set of rims.
My first job was polishing Aluminum Bud Wheels on my family's semi tractors. I would polish aluminum all day long all summer. We had 10 trucks and they got dirty everytime they went out on the road. I would start with Mothers, then rub till it's black and wipe off. Then I would repeat the process, but I wouldn't wipe off the mothers I would take never dull and rub the hell outta them to they re hazed then wipe them off. Then I would use a product called Wicked it would leave a high lustre shine. You couls ask anybody who knows me ain't nobody around that has polished wheels that shine like mine. Our trucks would go into the landfill and get trashed and tomorrow look like brand new. Just stay on them frequently. I highly reccomned Wicked, google it that stuff does wonders.

If you drive your mustang in the snow and salt lube them with vasoline that is what I would do to our big trucks. it works quite well, eventually it gets washed away but it preserves them well for shortwhile. Also chrome polish or the Wicked Metal Polish that I earlier reccomended works on chrome, aluminum, and stainless.
