New To Modding, What Do You Think?

Hey all, Im planning to mod my STOCK 02GT soon. I've never modded a car so i'm not sure what im doing really. Ive gotten an idea here an idea there & am trying to put it all together.

Im looking to go with a good deal more HP. I just like to drive em... I can do some of the work myslef as ive done a complete engine swap before. Im just unsure of what exactly to do.

Here is what i have planned, Please review & advise as needed. Please remember my engine is all stock @ 67k miles.
I dont know what the engine can take total power wise. Ive seen people with GT's have superchargers, but i dont know if they have upgraded internals or not..
(If you can make this cheaper, please do.. i have this listed in my garage with prices ive found)

3.73 gears
BBK Long Tubes w/ o2 sensor extensions
MAC Shortty Hpipe (catted)
Catback exhaust
Paxton Novi 1000 (tuner Kit) (will include upgraded injectors & fuel pump)
75mm Throtle Body & Plenum

Eaton Posi 31spline Diff.
Moser 31 Spline Axels
Spec Stage 3 Clutch
Tremac T56 & Triax Shifter (i have a triax on my 3650 & love it)

I know nothing of tunes. I figure a predator isnt gonna work so great for the tuner kit?

I also have suspension mods planned but thats a bit easier.. nothing blows up with that stuff

Stock engine can handle 400HP right? is this anywhere close???

Thanks for the advise... looking forward to begining the process soon.

I don't believe you will see 500 hp with that setup. You will not be able to run more than 8 psi with a very good tune on a stock bottom end. You can do it, the question is just how long will it hold up.

With the car going to be forced induction I would say go with 3.73's rahter then 4.10's...

ALso I would go with the Paxton Novi 2000 rather then the 1000...

But toehr then that it looks great...

any idea what that setup will be putting out HP wise? just a rough guess?

And will my engine seriously handle that? Ive heard horror stories of going FI on a stock engine.

3.73s. done deal. ive heard of people sing them but ive always been told go 4.10s.

As for the novi 2000....... im looking for some boost, not much. Not a huge racer, just want an extra kick. & im on a college budget...

Id also like to not blow up my engine... fear runs strong when it comes to my car..

that set up deffinitly wont give you 500hp
get those, plus cams, p/p head fordged internals and others to build your engine capable of handling the hp you want. then throw a s/c or turbo.

500hp with out FI or nitrous is kinda hard

you say you wnat just a little extra kick...500hp is more then a kick. thats FAST.

full bolt ons will give you that kick you want. cams and heads will be nicer too

As long as your tuner can keep his hand out of putting too much timing on the stock block and stay under 400rwhp your car is going to last for a bit...But when you get into forced induction you are opening up a bag of worms...

Fast, Cheap, Reliable...Pick 2...

Thats how it happens...Gotta pay to play...

Tuner will be SWTuning.... they're local & a club sponser... i hear they're pretty decent...

Lets say i use this setup.... im looking at an AVERAGE of how many miles?
If itll make 30k im fine... cause thatl be about 100K on the engine.. I'll be able to afford a new one by then..

drgnracin72 has a procharger set-up for sale for cheap...

Novi is a supercharger made by Paxton...

S/C = Supercharger

It all depends on the tune...

Your car could last 30K or it could last 2K...Its all about how hard you push it and how good the tune is...

hey D, i say do all those mods youve got but do go with 3.73 over the 4.10 as the 2v with forced unduction and that tall of a gear is too much. 4v its okay. yeah man my procharger is a great deal and cant get anyone to buy it. ill also tell you that jim at swtuning will do you one hell of a job. hes not the cheapest but i would def say that he is the best here in oklahoma and probably ones of the best in the country. he put my engine together and also tuned my car for me. its runs great. sounds ike youve got some big plans with the gt. if ya need any help installing anything or any ?s dont hesistate to ask.

The tuner may know what you should do, and how much it will get you. Novi 2000 FTW, intercooled or not.

dude, with the right tune @ 10psi you should be fine. i'm runnin 10psi on mine with stock internals and 40k on the clock and never had a prob with it. but like chris said you gotta pay to play. just make sure if you do get a procharger get the alum bypass valve cuz i missed 2nd and over rev'd mine and it went south on me,other than that no probs whatsoever.

good luck!

I agree, and I would not get a s/c just yet... build up your motor first, since you're on a college budget and it's your daily driver.

+1 Brotha, Even with a safe tune ur engine will still be a ticking timebomb, Put the cash aside and add forged inernals then add a S/C and u can push alot more BOOST.
