I've done it. Rebuilt mine last summer. I'd do it again if I needed to. The input shaft bearing shouldn't be difficult compared to doing a whole rebuild like I did. You'll need a way to pull it off. I used a friends press and a fixture that worked as a bearing splitter. I've seen guys use a 3-jaw puller with extended jaws. I can't remember every detail right now but if you need help just ask.
I have access to a bearing press, and I have a big assortment of 2 and 3 jaw pullers, but after looking at the service manual I think I'll need something different to make it work, but all in all it seems pretty doable. I have most of the summer to finish it too if it takes awhile
I would if I had t56 swap money laying around! I've got too much money tied up in other parts of the project
