So I have a blown Mach 460 passenger door tweeter. I can get a replacement one fairly easily, but is there any new aftermarket speakers that I could just drop in?
I think they are 2.5 inch, and 4ohm, unlike the rest of this system.
Anyone know of any speakers that will require little to no work and have at least a little bit better sound quality?
You can go hunt for something over on Parts-Express.com, they typically do home audio but I have used speakers from there with luck in the past. The problem is you will come across a bunch of brands that you don't recognize that will make it harder to find what you need. They list all specs in the descriptions and you should be able to find a decent pair of tweeters on there for pretty cheap if you know what you are looking for. With that being said, you will be better off making the decision now whether you are going to keep the Mach 460 forever, or take this chance to gut it and upgrade to all aftermarket. IMO, the Mach 460 is good for something basic but is probably a sinking ship if you are planning on having audio with some real clarity.
Yeah I agree the Mach460 kind of sucks. I have a weird Frankestein of audio in my car. Don't ask me how since I know jack squat about audio, but it sounds great.
I have Kicker 6x8s in the doors. All factory in the back, pioneer headunit and two 12 inch kicker comps. The subs are awesome, i'm not one of those guys who blasts bass enough to have my trunk rattle off. Just wanted some more kick.
Ever since I bought the car my one door tweeter crackled at high pitch sounds. Found a write up by some guy with a terminator. He recommended PowerBass s-275ch tweeters. Can be found on amazon for about 25$
The tweeters are 2.75 inch instead of 2.5 but they are the same shape, same mounting bracket, and are a direct swap for our factory tweeters. The only difference being that they have pig tails while our speakers have male spades. I didn't want to jeopardize the factory wiring, so I attached male spades to the end of the attached wiring, and plugged them into the factory connectors. They sound fantastic! Pretty solid improvement. And you get 2 for the price of one used oem speaker
Thank you eric. It's good info. Only downside is the author wrote too much before I was getting to the meat lol need to read from top to bottom
