Engine Stalling Problems!

I have a 2001 GT with a 4.6L. It has 68,000 miles on it & has developed a start up problem.

When I start it up for the first time of the day, or it sits for a few hours, the engine starts but RPM goes right to zero. I can keep it running by giving it some gas to maintain the RPM's but have to left foot the brake when stopping. This condition lasts sometimes 20 -25 miles then everything returns to normal.

BTW....until it returns to normal, the RPM's are higher and the transmission has different shift points.

I've cleaned the K&N filter, changed the plugs & checked every vacuum line. ANY IDEAS? HELLLLLLLLLLLLP!

IAC valve? What does IAC stand for?

idle air control. You can remove it and clean it with brake parts cleaner. That should clean a lot of carbon out of it, but sometimes the valve can be bad enough that you have to replace it. I'd try the barke parts cleaner first and see if that fixes it.

The valve might be sticking. I would replace it.

$52 at Autozone. I didn't want to go thru the hassle of cleaning it & wondering how long it would last.

Just a question what is the IAC Valve made of and where is it at. Just a question. And also Crewdog, are you in the USAF?

engine stalling

MidniteGT..........I'm retired from the Air Force now but was a crew chief on F-111's, F-101's, F-4's and finished on the Falcons. Never had the pleasure to crew an Eagle.

It's a metal cylinder shaped object located on the leading edge of the throttle body. It has 2 bolts & one connector. It takes me longer to change my oil than it did to change the IAC valve!
