my belt squeak has me stumped

My belt was worn out and starting to squeak so i replaced it and all was fine. That was about a couple months ago, and it started squeaking again slightly yesterday so i got some belt dressing for it.

Now here is were i am stumped: when i spray a little on the smooth side of the belt nothing changes, but when i spray a little on the ribbed side it instantly starts squeaking like a mad man. It always goes away after i drive it for a while but comes back after sitting.
I pulled my belt off and none of my pulleys wobble. Also when i apply more tension to the belt with the tensioner while the motor is running it it gets worse.

Another thing that i don't know if it helps any or not, but today i hit a puddle a little faster than i should have and water splashed in my engine compartment and the noise went away but the next time i started it the noise was back.

I'm not sure where to go from here or what to check next. Anyone got any ideas?

your not supposed to dress the underside.. belt slip much?
you may need a new tensioner pulley

ok i had the same problem. I put WD-40 on mine LOL. I know im a dumb ass. Also you are not suppose to Lubricate the type of belts we have. The belt runs on Friction so by putting the dressing on you are creating slippage and that is causing the sweak. The thing that i found that worked for me was to Just drive the car as much as i could until the Lubrication was just not there anymore. But in your Case take the belt off and Rub a Bar of Soap on the belt. use a DRY Bar Soap. This will get the squeak usally 90% of the time. Dont need to use water or anything. using something to get the Dressing off and then use the bar soap on it. If this doesn't work then its not your belt it has to be something else.

Well don't i feel like a dumbass!

I just assumed you dressed both sides.

So just so i'm clear here, you're saying that since when i increase the pressure with the tensioner it gets worse. More than likely it is the tensioner pulley that is doing the squeaking.

take the belt off, then push on the tensioner...pretty easy to tell if its bad. The belt squeaking is probably just because you dressed the ribbed side...give a few days and see if it goes away. Oh and the stock tensioner is a piece of junk, but its pretty cheap about $25 for a new one with pulley.
