Tires and Lowered

Hello all, first post but have done alot of reading and searching.

What would be the lowest I could lower a 04 gt vert and still be able to fit 315/35/17 in the back and 275/40/17 in the front?

I just purchased this car and atm it has 275/35/20 on it and the front rubs when I hit a good bump. I really dont like the way the 20's look and want to go back to 17's but also want to do the 315-275 if I can get away with it. I do know that the car has eibach springs on it, but have no clue as to how much it has been lowered, I am guessing about 2" though.

Thanks

Hard to say how low ya are now.. if you know they are eibach springs... my bet is your running th e pro kit... its the most common with eibachs. If ya DO have those you could go a bit lower with eibach sportlines or H&R SS springs. All these springs listed will let you run a 17 inch wheeel. Myself I got 18 inch wheels and running the eibach pro kit springs and I LOVE the stance of my car. Hell while im at it.... even if you decided to go all the way low and get the bigger 18 inch wheel that would work too. Its all in what you want.

BTW.... wecome to the boards!

if you're already rubbing in the front on bumps, you likely have sportlines...and it doesn't get much lower than that.. 2" is the max i'd lower a mustang...especially 99-04s... If you can show a pic, i can tell you what springs you already have.. Pro kits shouldn't rub in the front unless you hit the bump fast and hard...

I am not wanting to go any lower. I am just wanting to make sure i am not going to have any issues with going to the 315's and 275's.

I know that the 255/35/20's are a good bit taller than what I am looking at puting on, but did not know if the extra width was going to get me or not.

Thanks

Not sure the Sportlines would be the cause of a rubbing issue. Probably more like the chosen wheel offset. The 315s shouldn't be a problem either as long as the offset of the wheels are correct. You can check my pics in my Garage here. 18 x 9 1/2s with Eibach Sportlines...No rub.

The rims i am looking at are 17x9 with 5.95" back spacing and 17x10.5 with 6.9" back spacing. Does that sound right?

Thanks

I would highly recomend getting some mustang specific wheels. This way you know they are gonna be exactly what you expect. I got my fr500s from Mustang Parts & Performance - American Muscle its a great site and they offer free mounting and balancing plus free shipping too. I got my wheels and tires from them and couldnt be happier!

As far as the 17x9s go... thats a good size... dont know about the back spacing though. I personally like 18x9s front and 18x10s rear. Go to that web site though and check em out. They got alot of different styles and sizes and will even recoment the size tire to run with it too.

Ok, the springs on the back of the car have a part# 3510.302 on them...tried to do a search for that part number and come up with nothin and it does not match any part# on eibach's site for my car. If any of you guys know the deal with these springs I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Found out the springs on the car are the Pro Kit for a GT coupe and not a gt vert...tech guy said the dirrence was the stifness of the springs due to the extra wieght of the vert. I also figured out I have the Steeda weight-jacker lower control arms. I am thinking this may be the reason the back is so low and I should be ableto adjust it back up atleast a inch from that. As far as the front i still dont see why it is so low.

I dont want to go lower, I am trying to figure out exactly what they have done to get the car as low as it is. It is lower than a pro kit should have it, I think I got the back figured out and can fix that..but still dont have a clue in the front of the car.

I dont think a diffrent sidewall hieght from front to rear would look good...thats why I was saying 315/35 and 275/40...
