Odometer Problem--Not

I have had a perplexing odometer problem since I purchased my GT. It was accurate at first. But the speedometer was off. I jacked the car up and turned the tires. It looked like I had 3.27 gears. But, when I had the supercharger installed the tuner reset my speedometer telling me I had 3.73 gears. That was when I noticed the odometer was 17% slow (The same as the difference between 3.27s and 3.73s.)

I've since had headers installed with a new tune. The second tuner said my speedometer was off. He reset it telling me I had 3.55 gears. I checked the odometer and it was now off 8.5% too slow(The same as the difference between 3.27s and 3.55s).

I then learned that you could use the odometer in dealer trouble shooting mode to check your speedometer. The analog speedometer needle is consistently 7 mph too fast regardless of the speed. Evidently, the previous owner had put the needle on wrong when installing the white face gages.

I've noticed that some companies ship a special needle removal tool with their gages. Is there a way to safely remove the needle withoug the tool?

use a fork an cut off the inside 2 so that only the 2 outside ones are left on it that will pop them right off

Thanks for the replies. A fork seems to be the correct tool.

After I cut off the two inside prongs, I don't think I'll put it back in the wife's silverware drawer.
