Steering Wheel Problem

i took ppls advice and used the search function but found nothing about this

and im pretty sure this is a tech question so i dont see the harm in asking this

today i was going about 50 on a slightly curvy road and when i started going towards the right where the road curves my wheel like locked up...so i when to the other lane and almost got hit head on. i ended up slamming my brake and pulling my ebrake and spinning through the grass on the left side of the road

i have no clue wtf happed

when i was stopped i couldnt turn the wheel at all so i shut the car off and when i turned it back on everythign was normal again

anybody know wats wrong...im a little worried to drive rite aboug now, i mean if this happens again i might not be so lucky

Air could have built up in the line, causing a lock. Same thing can happen with the brake and the gas.

Just fyi, slamming on the brake and ripping the e-brake are 2 of the worst things you can do. When your in the situation though, you just do the first thing that pops into your head, haha.

hmmm, that's a new one. There steering shouldn't lock, even if you car stalled as long as the key is still on it doesn't lock. So I don't seem to be much help. Glad you're OK.

Same thing happen to my friend (on a chevy) and same thing happen to one of our Ford partol Vans .it was the ignition switch that had gone bad on the chevy and on the van it was the key that was very worn out .

sorta like when you turn to lock the wheel when the key is not in the ignition.

Any ways if your having problems with your ignition, like attempting to start the car but the key wont turn.
then look at your key very good to see if its worn and try a better key or it might be ignition switch itself that might need to be replaced.

if both your keys are worn go to the ford dealer show them your registration and drivers licence and they can cut you a new freash key for your car.

anyways best of luck glad your safe and hope we can help you out.

yeah it has something do with your ignition switch, just like when you don't have a key in the car and try to turn the wheel the steering wheel normally locks up. When you ask questions about prices and how much it will cost to fix every single place is going to be different, when it comes to that just call different places and get a quote cause even if they say 10 dollars your still going to call around everywhere to try to get it fixed. So no need for anymore bumps or evening bumps, just call a shop and tell them what happened and that you would like a new ignition switch and new keys
