Mach 460 Head Unit

I have a Mach 460 system and I want to replace the head unit with an indash GPS/CD unit. Will the whole system still work if I don't have a Mach head unit anymore?

I want to get the flip down. Any advice on which one? The thing is that the ones that stay there are attractive to thieves here in P.R LOL

Is there one were you can run your engines stats on?

I have the mach 460 audio sysytem in my 2001 mustang gt and im a little confused on some parts from this thread.
Integrating AM Head Unit w/ Mach 460 (00-04 Mustangs) - Mustang Forums

1)the part where it state "Take the 2 Black/white amp grounds on the RCA plug harness, and solder these, plus your dimmer/illum. ground (orange/black)and solder them to the metra adapter ground along with your radio ground, "
Do i take black and white (amp ground) wires AND the orange/black (dimmer/illum. ground ) wires and solder them all together to a new chassis ground or do i solder them all to the one black ground on the Metra black harness and to the factory harness?

2)also do i wire up all the wires for the speakers as well or do i just use the rca cables to get sound from my new head unit?
im thinking i just need to use the rca cables and not wire up the speaker wires ,is that correct?

asking since i dont have my new head unit yet to test anything and want to get my mind ready.

what i did was :

1)Take the 2 Black/white amp grounds on the metra RCA plug harness, and i took the dimmer/illum. ground wire (the orange&black wire ) from the metra harness and solder them togther and put them all on the chassis of the vehicle with a screw from under the dash thats on the metal frame of the car ,i soldered the radio ground wire to the metra adapter(black) ground wire.
so far i have no ground loops or whine noise.

2) all the wires front, rear, left, right from the aftermarket head unit also had to be solderd on to the metra harness for all the factory highs to work ,i put the from the metra harness to the front rca jacks from the new head unit as it gave me the best over all control of the audio system.

NOTE: the fader will still work but it will work a little odd due to the way the factory mach audio system wires are set up .
