Forged pistons???

should i get a forged short block or go for the pistons?? my motor has 72k on it, and it seems that everyone i know around here prefers to just put in shortblocks, and not pistons. what is a reasonable price for either? i got quoted 2 grand for a fuckin short block, would a forged rotating assembly and balance be less?? and if so is there anyone around my area (MA or RI) who will do it?

Do a whole shortblock. The rods are powdered junk in 2v's. If the rods were good, the pistons could last to 500+HP.

Get a BUILT shortblock and never look back. its expensive but thats how the modular game goes.

you could build your own for a couple hundred dollars less , but why not just buy a tried and true shortblock that has a warrenty

yes i think it would. no there isnt a 5.4 L stroker kit. there isnt enough material (bore) or stroke to get 5.4. the 5.4 L motors actually have a taller deck hieght so if you want to convert to a 5.4, ur gonna need a 5.4 block

Also, there's some places to stay away from....SHM and MMR are 2 off the top of my head I can think of. Both used to be excellant companies but now just, well....suck.

Since they started putting out shitty shortblocks....They used to be good buti n the last year or so, they have went to shit. All I read anymore is how their shortblocks die left and right under the rated HP levels.

I'd say get it built LOCALLY...that way you know who built the block and it isnt some company 3000 miles away who doesn't give a fuck.

MMR builds great shortblocks. Don't let some internet chitter chatter and e-thuggin' steer you away from a reputable compny.

Been running a MMR MOD 900 shortblock for over 2 years and it still runs strong. I hope to get their stage 3 heads in a couple weeks.

ok ac, ur rep is better than nxstangs so i think ill trust urs over his. ive been looking for alumium shortblocks but mmr, no matter the quality, are till $3698 (alumium 900) w/o shiping and none of the fancy stuff they offer and im curious if i can find it a little cheaper from a different, but reputiable bulider

Actually, that price is very good. Try to price all the parts, pieces, machining, balancing, and assembly out. You will find that the MMR shortblock is an excellent deal at that price. Just pistons and rods are going to run in the neigborhood of $1500 if quality parts are purchased.

well alot of it i can do myself, such as putting it together, but i cant do the machining. other places ive found that have pretty good reps are about the same price as mmr

Mine was almost 3300 after shipping. I have all the apr hardware, notched pistons, and their oil pump. Of course thats 2 years ago. They also threw in the notched pistons for free. They let me pay for the shortblock first, and then shipping 3 weeks later when it was finished. That allowed me until my next pay to finish paying for it.
