Bullitt or Bull$h!t?
Hey,
I'm looking at buying an 01 Bullitt but after running the vin came up with an oddity, it came up as a regular GT. This car has it all, Bullitt manifold, brakes, wheels, interior, badging, gauge cluster, seats, and every other thing that shows a Bullitt. But, it has a rear spoiler. As far as I know, no Bullitt came with a spoiler (nor should they). That, and the vin has me wondering. What do you all think? |

Bullitt's didnt have spoilers. It should also have the very notciable Bullitt intake underhood.
bullitt's are badged as GT's. is it Dark Highland Green?

It has the Bullitt intake manifold, but has a spoiler. Its odd. i know the cars really well, and the spoiler along with the vin thing has thrown me off. Oh, its black. They came in black though along with the true blue.

The spoiler was probably added on. When I was in the process of buying my Bullitt, they showed me a catalog with all the different types of items I could have installed on my car by the dealer. I thought about adding a hood scoop and the GT500 rear spoiler but then the car would not be a Bullitt, it would be the same as all the other GT's. So I left it stock and glad I did.
As for the VIN#, it will show it as a GT. Because when I gave the VIN of the Bullitt to my insurance company, they came back saying Mustang GT. |

The '01s also had the same kicker panels the 03/04 Cobras used.

Yeah it should have a halographic decal which would be almost impossible to recreate...also the vin # shouldnt worry you to much b/c when my car (like many 01 GTs) the vin can return saying it is a bullitt edition... when I was getting the loan for my car that happend and they thought my cars value was more b/c of it. this should have all the info you need, also check the brakes and see if they have the little pony decal on them

if you go to IMBOC.com you can contact the moderator and they have access to a lot of registered bullitts and I believe that the he can check the VIN for you.

The reason it doesn't come up as a bullitt is because it is just an aftermarket GT. I know for a fact the same thing happens with Roushs and Saleens, you just have to give the cars certification number for the insurance company to cover the add ons

kinda diff Proto, ford customized the bullitts, as like the mach cobra...etc...saleen and roush started as a gt and the saleen and roush companys customized them. They are seperate from FoMoCo

I was stating for insurance reasons, when you go to register your car the only cars advertised are v6s, GTs, Cobras, and Machs. The reason being that there isn't a significant hp/displacement difference to call for another category. If you register your car as a GT and regret to inform them that it is a "limited" run like the bullitt then when you get into an accident your upgraded exhaust, suspension, etc. will not be covered

Ok, let me clear up how to tell if it's a Bullitt or not. Look on the driver's side shock tower for the holographic sticker. Should be 0---- under the Bullitt logo. If that sticker is worn (common to happen on '01s) look under the back seat on the driver's side under the carpet for sticker #2.
Now for what's different for the Bullitts- Engine- Intake manifold with twin blade throttle body Different computer with apropriate tune Underdrive pullies Cobra 150 Amp alternator Bullitt specific high flow mufflers Tremec TR-3650 tranny Outside- Stock GT hood scoop Chrome running horse w/ black surrond in grill No fog lights No spoiler Different (smoothed) C scoops Bullitt specific lower rockers and front splash guards ('03 Cobras were different) Bullitt specific rear side windows and trim (later used on Mach 1s) Bullitt badging on trunk lid Crome rolled exhast tips The Wheels! (OK, the GTs got to share, but they are called WHAT?) Inside- Bullitt specific guages (retro look) Bullitt specific seats Bullitt running plates at door opening Billit shift knob and trim ring Silver door lock knobs Only available in Black Leather Suspention and Brakes Differen front sway bar V6 rear sway bar Tokico struts/shocks Stiffer springs (lowered 3/4" from stock) Subframe connectors from the convertables 13" front brakes with red painted caliper w/ running horse design 11.4" rear brakes with red calipers 17" space saver spare from Cobra The cars were available in Dark Highland Green, Black, and True Blue. The one option? Mach 460 stereo. It will show up as a GT on the VIN because nothing in the VIN denotes it as a Bullitt. The "X" in the engine spot (8th spot?) is for the 4.6L SOHC engine, shared with the GT it was based off of. Hope this clears the air and helps your decision to buy. I would. Wait, I did!
