milage light


my odometer light has been blinking on and off kind of a minor annoiance untill today it decided to dim permanantly so you can hardly reed it so is thier a fix for this or what and how do you take it out

wow that sucks. is everything else working okay in the speedo area? probably have to pull that thing out and change the bulb

probably have to take the dash trim off around it and should be 3-4 screws or something. and i think the plug is built onto the back so when you pull the assembly out it unplugs itself and when you put it back you just carefully push it back in snugly

no see everything else is working just the odometer the rpm gauge works the speedo works and when i turn the lights on it lights up its just the mileage light but ill look and see if its just maybe the plug if anyone else has input id apreciate it

its a cold solder joint in the readout. I can't remember what pin it is but thats what is causing the problem. I have the same thing in my expedition and i am a electronic technician who was training to solder crazy shit but i am just too lazy to go in there and fix it.

but if you repalce the cluster how do you keep your milage with out going to the dealer ?

it ain't cheap to replace the whole cluster, you might want to call a ford dealer and talk to them. By now i am sure they have seen the problem before. I would say remove the whole assembly and send it to me and i will resolder it for ya, unless you know how to solder, go buy some flux core solder wire and a soldering iron and just flow a little solder on each pin
