I want to build a Turbo Kit

I basicly was looking into what I would need to start to put togather a turbo kit for my
2000 GT. I am on a budget that allows me to buy alittle at atime, so I just want to build up the kit from scratch. Only thing Im really having problems on is, WHAT turbo I should get, WHAT piping, and where the heck they sell the damn header for such a thing..

Thanks much

I saw that thred, and it went no where....
I started a new one hoping to bring up some new resources.

Once again Im starting from scratch here, I need to know which turbo to get
WHERE to get my header setup, and if it doesnt mount to the header, then a diagram of the piping layout to intercooler/exahust. IF ANYONE can help me on this would be much much much appricated.

it all depends on the power levels you want, the flange your using. and what your goals are with the car. there are way t many option to just tell you which turbo to buy

ok ill try to help on the piping...

the right way it to have someone mandrel bend and cut your piping,

Then bead the ends for a perfect fit,
Then coat them with powder coating (cheap and you can do it yourself)
Or keep it cool with polished ceramic like me and have a showroom finish

I want to basicly put down about 375-400 hp.
I dont know where to get the header's though, and I dont know which turbo's
to buy to start my kit. I dont care if it takes me a year to build it piece by piece, but I need to know where to start, I know alot more about HOW turbo's work now after reading some stuff on turbomustangs.com, but not really what KIND of turbo will work for a mustang specificly.

Thanks again

you will find much better info at turbomustangs.com. We can answer most of your basic questions here but if you need details of what all you need you need to go to that site.

Studies show that 92% of kids listen to rap. If you are one of the 8% who still listens to real music put this in your signature.

first off Turbo ftw...so your in the right direction
second i wouldnt use a junk yard turbo...not even rebuilt
third i would go no less then a t4 flange for a turbo kit unless its twin then twin t3 flanges would be good

also look at the power you want now and power you want in the future. a t4 is going to be plenty for a single kit, they have turbos that are small you could use like 57trims and as big as t80s

for a single kit i'd say a .68 a/r or a .72 is good for a stock motor. for a built motor i'd go no less the .84 a/r with like a 72mm or t76

as for header piping 1 5/8 is a decent size or 1 3/4 would probably be a better idea
2.5inch piping of the headers or manifold to the turbo would be a good idea for a stock motor, 3inch is a bit excessive unless your looking for SERIOUS power like 800+rwhp maybe 700rwhp+

for the stock motor out of the turbos compressor 2.5 inch piping to the intercooler is a good choice then 3in out the exit side to your throttle body. and 3inch exhaust piping for a stock motor

if you have plans on a built motor and 10s
then 1 3/4 out the exhaust ports for the head
2.5inch or 2.75 to the turbo
3inch to the intercooler 3in or 3.5 inch to the intake.

anything bigger or faster you probably shouldnt be asking then

doesnt matter if you want to run 20psi or 3psi

the cost will be built upon
turbo choice
piping choice-if you go cheap...then it'll be cheap
intercooler
clamps
fittings
oil lines
wastegate you choose
blow off valve
getting the flanges for it

then you've got Mass air metter to upgrade
fuel injectors
and fuel pump
a twin setup will be more expensive since buying the turbo is a big expense.

btw if you choose crap parts you'll get crap

a $500 ebay turbo you should NOT expect to last as long as a turbo from Garret
buying the cheapest steel piping you can find may slowly bend over time with excessive heat, or rust.
a cheap wastegate might spike at 10psi then result in 7psi at redline
a cheap blow off valve will leak
a cheap intercooler from ebay will not cool as well as precision or spearco

cheap oil fittings may leak at 60+psi of oil pressure

braided black fuel line IS NOT GOOD FOR OIL FEEDS to the turbo
get the metal braided on the outside!

and if you don't know how to weld or fabricate your a little behind the power curve, i would rather spend 6k on a kit thats looks goods and works good than 1500 on a kit that looks like a blind person put it together and quality and longevity being unknown.
