TB & Plenum flow data

Well for the longest time I've wanted to go with Accufab because they're one of the better companies that I first come across and their product looks sweet, too. Today, I was browsing a website (CliffyK.. can't remember his exact name on here) and looking at flow data from many of the top brands for throttle bodies and plenums. For the most part, the numbers are pretty close to each other, but Accufab (the data was taken from their site and reformatted for readability by Cliffy) edges out the competition in each scenario. My question here is.. how do the numbers relate in laymen's terms? Also, how much of a difference is there in performance, really, caused by the low double digit numbers that Accufab pulls above the rest.

The website is PaladinMicro.com .. just click the link in the navigational frame on the left. Thanks guys.

nothing you can feel honestly but they do edge out the competition.

that's what im wondering.. is the amount they charge able to be justified by the amount which they outflow the competition by, honestly, or not really

if i plan on forced induction down the road, probably nitrous followed by s/c, is accufab going to yield much better results than the competition or not too much.. i mean i'm trying to understand how great of an impact the difference in flow has.. and really i guess just trying to understand exactly what those numbers mean to try and figure this out

i might just plan on going with a cheaper brand until i get my blower and swap it out if it seems to be a hinderance.. hopefully ill be getting the pypes beast kit pretty soon and i figured id try to learn a little more about this stuff since i figured it'd be a good combo with upgraded exhaust

I'm making 252/295 rwHP/ft.lbs. peak, with significant gains over stock everywhere else in the power band using Pro Product's plenum and 70 m/m TB--which isn't too shabby for very basic bolt-ons and a good tune.

The only thing an Accufab set could add (other than being damned nice to look at) would perhaps be a bit more pull at WOT; but lets face it, how often do you really go all the way WOT driving around on the street?

TB and plenum cost less than $200 on eBay, I gave a friend at a local shop $20 to powdercoat it (he was shooting candy apple on a bike that day)--I like it!

Thumbs down

Hi Guys! I'm a newbie to this site but would like to suggest a book that I found very helpful. It's called "Building 4.6 Horsepower on the Dyno" and it's written by Richard Holdener, who has done extensive dyno testing on Modulars. The book is basically a list of 185 dyno runs testing every conceivable part and combination available at the time of writing. He also supplies the actual dyno graphs which are great! His first tests were on TB's & plenums and he tested Accufab, C&L, Trick Flow and Dragon plenums with both 70mm & 75mm TB's. (All on the same engine, back to back). All units showed gains in the neighborhood of 12hp to 17hp @ 6,000rpm. All made no or little improvement below 4000, but the Accufab showed more area under the curve than the others. This was on a '98 PI converted engine w/ported heads, cams and LT headers. As a note, the 75mm TB made 5hp more than the 70mm on the Accufab plenum. However, when tested on Vortech blown motor, the 70mm unit made 11hp more than the 75mm.
