Question

short throw hangin up?

so i just bought this '02 GT and it came with a short throw shifter, no idea what kind, but its orange. when the car is not rolling, aka at a stoplight or what not it can shift through the gears no problem, however, when im cruisin and i go to bang out some gears it seems to get hung up for a sec between shifts. i thought i was being sloppy so i made sure i was hittin the gears dead on but it still will get hung up momentarily and drop into the gear, any ideas? on the brand of shifter or the problem

Its an MGW shifter

Take it out and see if its gummed up. Clean it out

I have an 04 and the tail shaft seal went. The dealer put the wrong fluid in it and it would not go in at high rpms. I made them change the fluid again and it's perfect.

while driving whenever i shift as the shifter lands in the "neutral area" it comes to a dead stop for a fraction of a second then pops into the gear i want... is there a mechanism that needs to be adjusted? it makes fast shifts practicly impossible, yet when im not rolling it shifts perfectly fine

btw thanks for the heads up on what kind it is

Synchros or shift fork. there is only a shaft and centering springs in the shifter, no mechanisms. Most likely its in the tranny. You can drain the tranny and refill it with some good new tranny fluid and see if that helps.

The reason I say synchros is because it doesn't do it when you are sitting there, shift fork will do it even when you are going or sitting most of the time.

+1 on the synchros

Hey bro, you been doing any powershifting, slamming it into gear at all? If not the previous owner probably did. The T-3650 are great tranies, but they don't hold up to powershifting for very long. I suggest start out with the process of elimination. Clean the shifter, flush the fluid, then go to a tranny shop. The dealer is going to be twice as high, and only give you what you had before. I suggest beefing it up if you have to go inside and repair it.

when my synchros first started showing signs of wear in my 3650, i drained the fluid and put 2 liter's of ATF in it and 1 of synchromesh, and it got better for several more months.... but alas, it comes back

good news though, if you are competant enough to pull the trans and know someone that will fix it for you on the low, you can get a nice set of synchros for a couple hundred bucks.....granted nothing else needs replacing

My MGW works great. I love it, it's a whole lot better than my old Tri- Ax.
