PYPES issues, Install Tips for anyone looking to buy thier kit.

I wrote this up for a fellow stanger on another site. Thought it could be usefull here as well. Thanks.

These are some notes and things i ran into, and things the good folks at PYPES dont tell you, or dont know. Makes one wonder if someone quality checks their parts.

1.) If you have after market shorty headers your going to have take the thread stops off the studs or the X pipe will not seat properly. You dont need to gorilla these on to get a good seat. You will bend there flange if you do so. (94-95)

2.) If you car has a smog pump line that runs back the X the chances of the stock line aligning with the PYPES line is ZERO. So you will need a 6 inch chunk of 3/4 black hose and two hose clamps. You might need to cutoff a part of the factory tube for proper fitment. Also the PYPES X does not have the smog pump line hold down that the factory one had. Would have taken all of a few minutes to weld one on. Shit even the BBK H had it.

3.) 94-95 X's come with the hangers for the factory h pipe hangers, the 99-04 X does not.

4.)The flowtubes that connect the X to the mufflers are 4 inches too long on purpose for proper fitment.

5.) Use vaseline when starting a slip fit connection, it makes it easier to get the parts to turn for adjustment.

6.) The hangers rods that go in the tips might fit like ass, try the vaseline first. If you cant get them in you will have to get a long bit and drill out the hole on top of the tip. Or just get pissed and bash it in there like i did.

7.)The tips have a built in clamp on it where it meets the piping. This is VERY poor design as it bends the bolt provided as you tighten it. I snapped two plus another one i bought to replace them. I said screw it and drilled out the threads on the one side and drilled both hols bigger to fit a good size grade 8 bolt and nut. Fixed that issue.

Start with the passenger side of the X and get it up and nuts started at the headers. If you have a spare jack or stang set the X on it. Next get the drivers side up in place and nuts started. DO NOT TIGHTEN ANY NUTS!! But you can get them semi snug.

Snake the left and right catback tubes up and over the rearend, If need be drop the bottom bolts of your rear shocks out and let the rear end come down to gain ease of clearance. Get the over the rearend piping set in the rubber hangers. Attach one of the mufflers, with the word INLET facing the front of the car, also using the vaseline and snug up a pipe clamp. If you have another helper it alot easier to help make sure things are straight. The longer flowtube is for the passenger side, and the shorter one for the drivers. Get the muffer straight and make sure the tubing going over the rearend isnt near the gas tank or upper control arms. Tighten that clamp a little more once you get that fitment, then set the flowtube close to inplace to mark if and where you need to cut excess off.

Repeat that on the other side and make sure you slip the flange connectors on the pipe BEFORE sliding the pipe into the other muffler INLET. Hand tighten both x pipe to catback sets of of nuts and bolts.

Next get the tips set where you want them and leave those snug as well. Once you have it all set and you have more grey hair start tightening everything starting with the header to x pipe nuts and work your way back. Have a jack or freind handy to lift up near the x and catback to ensure good ground clearance while your tightnening.
