Fuel pump question. Stock GT pump to GT (supercar) pump.
I just recently got a Ford GT (supercar) fuel pump.
I have yet to drop my tank and look at anything as I am still daily driving the car. I am sure there is small work to do and have read a artical or two on it but nothing is clear on any of them yet. Just wondering if anyone has done this swap yet? How much work is invovled? Does the tank have to be left 1/2 at times of hard driving? Things like that. Just curious. I plan on running it, just wondering if I should just do it here at my work (yes its a garage) or just have my preformance shop that is doing the other work handle it. I wouldnt mind saving $300 or so if its just a basic install with a little cutting and pasting on the new pump like I have read. Thanks guys.

my pump was a whole unit and it was as easy as dropping the tank pulling the modual and swapping baskets and pumps, i didn't cut or glue anything, i just undid like 5 small hex head screws and and electrical connector

Hmmm... Mine seems to be pump only but does have a (in my eyes) odd "housing" around it but is not the basket. I got it from ford. I dont remember my factory one having anything on it like this on does (changed my factory on about a year ago). here is the new GT pump I just got. ![]() ![]() Also can you run yours down to a 1/4 or less without any issues with the new GT pump?

Here is the "best" link with info I have found so far.
http://www.fordmuscle.com/forums/tec...3-mustang.html It isnt too good at actually showing or describing anything to be honest but its all I found.

Thank you very much. I have not been on the baord for a bit so I misse that one. Question though. Do you see any issues let when the tank is 1/4 full or so. I know the svt focus pump you need to keep 1/2 - 3/4 full when at WOT so the pump doesnt "over heat". Seen any issues like this with the GT or no?

I have not had problems at 1/4 tank(a little above), but I would definitly keep an eye on my fuel press or wideband when down that low

Yea I am going to treat 1/4 as empty. Going to be odd as I usually only keep a 1/4 in the car at most times. But hey I need fuel. I am having it dyno tuned here soon as well when I get the blower rebuilt so I am sure that will help a bit as well. For the first few weeks thoughs its going to be a "drop" and go job.

to get the most out of the pump's the voltage tables need to be tweaked for them,so be sure to tell them you have the pump so they can get the most out of them for you

I plan on it. It was their idea on the pump. They actually wanted to run a twin GT pump set up but I am going with a single and think it will be just fine. I am looking for 500 rwhp on pump gas. So if it can keep up with that then I am good. I dont really plan on beating her up too much or making a lot of track runs. Just something to have fun in frm time to time.

I just followed everything limited said in that previous post i had. Its sounds WAY more complicated than it is. Its not that bad. If you have any questions during install just ask. Thats what i did and limited was there to answer as soon as i posted. Good luck bro!!

Thanks guys. I am doing it here on Saturday. I work at a garage (parts manager) so me and a tech are going to do it since we are slow that day. I thought it was pretty straight forward from what was wrote out and I am sure when actually looking at the pump when its out it will be that much easier. Thank again for everyone that contributed.

Will look into that. First I have heard of it. What all is included in that kit? I just called (carquest) and got one coming. It shows on his screen just a hose but it was $23.95 and does claim to be a "kit". What should I expect to come with that?

if you read that link, that is the gates hose thats refered to.
It is only a 1' piece of 5/16 submersible high pressure fuel line. you will also need 2, 5/16 stainless clamps also. this is the best way imo to do it,if you trim the nipple and install the stock connector it will leak, many people already experienced that and had to drop their tank again. It is a expensive piece of hose but worth it in the end

I rather not trim the nipple. I have read a lot of bad about that actually. I have tons of clamps here so that part is easy. Car quest will have that hose here tomorrow for me. Thanks again.
