I dont think it will hurt your mileage, but I also dont think it will help it.

It will make your car more efficient and get u closer to the perfect a/f ratio. Performance chips usually say you get a mile or two gain. Id do a few mods and then get a tune, its not worth it stock

I had a 50 miles per tank difference when I tuned my 01 for 93.... It outweighs the higher cost of premium.

This was my experinece as well, though not quite as dramatic, maybe 1 to 1-1/2 mpg...

does the better gas give you enough increase in gas mileage to make up for the increased price?

Right now, here in Saint Augustine FL regular is $3.799 a gallon, premium is $3.999--a 20¢/$3.799 = +5.26% more.

I got 20.5 mpg before the 93 octane tune and 21.7 or so after, that's a 5.85% increase--so call it break even.

But beyond this, there is still a silly 20¢ to 30¢ difference between 87 and 93 octane--for a 12 gallon fill-up that's a whopping $2.40 to $3.60 more ($48 vs. $45.60)--skip the Starbucks latte that morning and enjoy the better performance!!!

+1 At 20 miles per gallon with our 15.4 gallon tanks and a .20 cent difference, 1.3 extra miles per gallon will break you even. Anything better than 1.3 will be saving you money and getting better performance like Cliffy said.

Of course, that's why I recommend a premium fuel tune and/or tuner as the first mod (well, maybe exhaust first)--but changing anything on the intake without a tune doesn't do much...

We are quite fortunate here in Florida, we get 93 octane year round and there's no such thing as emissions testing or any sort of inspection too!

Noticing about 30 some extra miles to a tank on my car with my tuner - running mid grade...

Nothing has changed in my 45+ years dealing with automobiles--there's fast, cheap, and safe and you get to pick any two...

I have tuned for and run premium fuel in every car I've owned, including a late '85 sold as '86 Corolla that was one of the very last RWD, carbureted Corollas made. 76 HP from the factory I had it dynoed at 118 HP with IHE, timing and re-jetting the carb...

Thats right. Running higher octane fuel without a tune is actually hurting your fuel mileage. Higher octane lets you tune your car for more advance timing which gives you the extra hp. If you don't advance the timing the fuel won't burn fast enough with the higher octane so the explosion will happen too late in the piston travel. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.
