pinion leak?

I just had gears put in about 3 months ago and i recently smelled gear fluid burning on my exhaust...it looks like the pinion seal is leaking? not sure...is this something i can do myself?

its an easy fix....

-disconnect four driveshaft bolts, move driveshaft out of the way...
-unscrew the pinion nut (this is where its ideal to have an impact gun and a "larger" socket collection.. i *think* its a 24mm socket, but its been a while and i'm not certain)
-pry old pinion seal out
-clean up around the area, make sure there are not burrs or anything that could rip the new seal
-silicone around the area and reinstalled the new seal, be careful putting it in, do it evenly
-put pinion nut back on
-silicone around everything again
-reattach driveshaft and take off

and check/refill rearend fluid level afterwards, you will lose some with this process

If you are not careful, when you reinstall the pinion nut, you can crush the pinion bearing. If it were me, I would take it back to the shop that did the gears and have them check thier work.
