Help: 99 GT leaning

Hello everyone,

Newly registered member and glad to be here.

I own a 1999 Mustang GT Convertible with 15.5k miles on it. I am the second owner of the car and it has an aftermarket suspension consisting of Bilstein shocks and Eibach lowering springs. I have owned the car since 2003.

I have noticed in the last year that the car leans to the drivers side. The car seems to ride fine, but only until recently has it really started bugging me when I look at it. The left side looks perfect, but the right side is about .4" higher when measured. I was just wondering if anyone could help me understand why it could be leaning? I have attached a photo of the rear just to give an idea of what it looks like. I should also add that I am 165lbs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

- Lawrence

My fox did this from torque, twisted the frame. You need to invest in some sub frame connectors from Maximum Motorsports.

If you twisted the frame due to torque, you are running some SERIOUS HP in your fox. Truth is the Fox body does not have great support frame-wise, so frame connectors are a good idea anyway. The SN95/New Edge is about 25% stiffer than Fox and the S197 about 75% more than SN95/New Edge. I have upper/lower SF support in my ride and think it is good idea as VERY important for good handling ride and lessens issues of rattles and poor fitting doors and such.

I would get the car up on a rack and do some close inspection. You could have a sagging spring, but more likely a deteriorated spring pad(s).

Not many miles.. I would see if the springs were not put in right (settled wrong) or something. Dont think struts would be bad with that many miles...

Does look weird. Even your tailpipe seems to be lower on the right than on the left. Welcome to the site.

Are all your tires the same? Like sidewall width mostly? What if you had different tires on rear and then without thinking had tires rotated? otherwise time to replace springs or check them.

yeah, check your tires and such. What kind of springs did you say that you had? Its possible they are bad springs and settled wrong. I would check the alignment of your frame, while the sn95 might be better than the fox bodies, they are still VERY weak. Get subframe connectors and make sure they are installed correctly. Then check your springs.

My car does it too, it pisses me off. I tried swapping the ISOs and springs from each side and it still does.

It shouldn't be too hard to trace down the cause of the problem. Either:

Your frame is twisted, highly doubt, unless you are pushing alot of HP (which I don't believe you are) or the previous owner was in a wreck/jacked the car up wrong.

The spring was installed incorrectly (most likely). I would definitley jack the car up and take a look at both springs. Could be that it is just a faulty spring.

It could be some other things, different size tires, bent control arm, etc. But I highly doubt that it is any of those things.

with 15 miles on it id have to lean toward an issue with the springs. did you look into that first? i doubt your frame is bent unless you did some crazy shit to it. how did you get the car as a second owner with only 15 miles on it?
