Fried my torque convertor???
Driving home from PT this morning, car started smoking really bad...engine temp and oil pressure fine no CEL. Put the car up in the air and see tranny fluid everywhere (auto). Its looking like the fluid is coming from where the tranny mates to the engine. Engine/tranny wise the only thing i have done to the car is a CAI and chip. The tranny was rebuilt about 15k miles ago.
The car started slipping close to the house, but that was because it was almost out of fluid...otherwise the tranny felt fine. I'm wondering if i just boiled the fluid....doubt its going to be something that simple though. Anyone have any ideas? |

front pump seal... that thing leaks/lets go your effed in tha A. basiclly that seal leaked, your front pump pumped all the tranny fluid out right in front of the tourqe converter spilling it everywhere and down your exhaust - which would explain all the smoke. your exhaust is probly coverd under there right.
the torque converter is a sealed metal tank, if that were to fail it most likely would have done it as soon as the car were running, the only other thing in there to leak is that front pump seal... which as you may have guessed it, means you have to drop the tranny, sucks. will the tranny shop warranty that shizz-nit??? p.s. your sure its not a cooler line?

Highly doubt its a cooler line...all of the fluid starts at the bottom of the bellhousing. And yes the exhaust and pretty much everything else behind the tranny is covered in oil. Unfortunatly can't do anything warranty, work was done in Va i live in Ok now. The pump seal makes perfect sense, and most likely what it is. Thanks for your help!
Probably will just tow the car over to my storage unit, then maybe do a full termi swap or something when i get back from deployment. |

if your feeling mechanical its really not that bad, just drop the trany, pull the seal and instal a new one, with a buddy and a few beers you can do it in a couple hours

Yeah doesnt seem to hard...i just don't have time...gotta pack up, move outta the house and off to the desert.
I just double checked the cooler lines, they are fine...but i think you hit it on the head with that seal...just started the car to see if i could see the leak...its all leaking from the rubber service plug (towards the front of the tranny, on the bottom side) This is my second tranny to give on me and only have 40k on the clock...heck i dont even beat on the car...dyno shop blew the first tranny back when i was supercharged. I'm just gonna do a termi swap when i get back...i know not the worlds best motor setup, but its good enough and can easily do a manual swap with it. |

Thanks...yeah i'm thinking i might have a shop do it...probably just going to get a apartment when i get back. It looks like i can get everything needed for about $6k and i'm guessing about 2k in labor.
And yeah the tranny probably still is good, it ran fine just leaked. |

have someone check the torque converter and make sure there arent any jagged or sharp edges on the shaft that could be rubbing/slicing the front pump's seal. seen some have that issue.
