Got an SCT tuner NEED HELP!!!

I got an SCT XCAL3 about 6 weeks ago. Last friday I put my car on a "Mustang" dyno (supposedly they are the most accurate). I was greatly disappointed. I made 3 pulls in 4th gear
1-with custom tune in (234.1 rwhp @ 5050 rpm 265.9 rwtq @ 4300rpm)
2-tune off (235.4 rwhp @ 4960 rpm 268.8 rwtq @ 4120 rpm)
3-tune back in (234.3 rwhp @ 5040 rpm 270.1 rwtq @ 4150 rpm).
the custom tune came from american muscle i just had it tuned for gears egr delete and O/R x pipe which now has the cats back in it. If any of you tuning guys have any suggestions i would appreciate it. Oh yeah my best 1/4 pass is 13.079 @ 104.69 in maryland with an ok tire (pre tuner).

i got an Xcal 2 from AM with a tune for long tubes, and the car runs like shit. i'm taking her to get tuned later this week. mail order tunes will never be as good as an actual dyno tune. you should be making better numbers than what the dyno showed, even for a Mustang dyno. and there's no definitive proof that Mustang dyno's are more accurate. they can compensate for different variables that you can't compensate for on a dynojet...
where'd you get it dyno'd, just out of curiosity?

where i work we have a performance dyno. we are not a performance shop or anything like that we test engine oil fuels and tranny fluid and stuff like that. the guy that runs the dyno for us said he would let me get on it again (i only had to wait a freakin year to get on it the first time!) and we could mess around with tuning it. the cable that comes with the tuner... that allows you to hook it up to a computer right? what exactly can you do with that i've never tried to do it.

You ran 13.07@104.69 n/a with the mods in your sig and only 235hp? Something doesn't add up.

Either the dyno is way off or you were on slicks with a 50 shot.

that is the best pass i have ever made. we rented the track and had it treated. i have a vid of it if noone believes me. other things to keep in mind is that buds creek is a downhill track 10 ft i believe the weather was ridiculously awesome for racing good temp and baro. my fastest pass elsewhere is 13.504 (dinwiddie, va) and it was really hot outside.

If your car ran flat 13's with stock tune, hell with the tune and unload it. And 13.5's in the heat isn't bad for your mods.

the 13.5 was on street tires, with tuner. i launch at 5000, no front sway bar either. i don't know what the car will run with a good tire on a flat track i'm hoping 13.2 but thats if the tuner will ever make a dif i'm just not real good with computers i need some suggestions as far as timing and fuel adjustments

Although both the DynoJet and Mustang dynos are inertia type instruments, the Mustang can be configured (and usually is) to simulate aerodynamic drag and rolling resistance, by using an eddy-current brake (load) to simulate same. Because of this Mustang numbers are typically lower than DynoJet numbers, and vary according to the gear selected for the run (because the drag loads in the Mustang are also based on vehicle speed) .

Numbers I have seem agree that when a 1:1 tranny gear is chosen (4th in our 5 speeds) DynoJet numbers will be 5% higher than Mustang numbers--applying this to your numbers we get "DJ corrected" values of 247 HP/283 ft.lbs. (using the highest numbers you got for each base).

Most of us are used to seeing DynoJet numbers, so these corrected numbers will fit in a bit better with your low 13's/104 mph run (on a freshly treated track).

As for the tune not doing much, it sounds as though you did not ask the tuner to do much in the way of performance tuning. You didn't mention fuel octane so I'm assuming it's an 87 octane tune, if so then don't expect much in the way of added performance.

The speed correction is just speed correction, the EGR delete (which can actually hurt performance*) just turns off the EGR control functions in the PCM and blocks the DTC, and the o/r X-pipe part does the same for the catalyst monitoring functions.

-----------------------------------
* - Quite nonintuitively, the EGR system actually cools combustion chamber temps and allows the timing to be advanced further. Here's a good article explaining this, it's from a Camaro/Firebird site but the theory holds true for our cars as well.

The egr valve is a PITA with longtubes. Didnt even bother with mine.

I have the same american muscle tune, it sucks. I am trying to upload this tune from Joe at tricktuners, I hear nothing but good things.

My dyno numbers are dynojet @ 90something degrees.

And 13.0x i hella fast for your mods, even downhill with wind and the perfect conditions lol.
