What makes a car unstreetable?

Hey guys, just a quick question. I have seen this quite a bit on the forums, when talking about big power cars, or certain cams will make a car unstreetable. What exactly does that mean? How can a set of cams, make a car unstreetable? too much power? gas guzzler? Seems like a stupid question but I honestly dont know :-) Thanks.

its all in they eyes of the beholder. Know a 10 second car with a huge cam could be streetable to me, but not to you, beause you dont want to have to rev it to 4500 to get any torque out of it.

i say a car is unstreetable when you can no longer get traction even at half throttle

Id be glad to drive a 10 second car on the street, but I wouldnt want to because I couldnt afford the gas. Like matt said, its all in the driver really. whether or not you want to put uip with crap

If the car has such a rough idle (like from monster cams) that you have to concentrate on keeping it from dying rather than paying attention to the road.

If the car has a bad ass clutch that really grabs, but makes going from stop sign to stop sign a major bitch.

A lot of times (especially if you are dealing with cars that have a large bore) overheating can become an issue and sometimes after just a few minutes of driving.

These are just a few things that can make a car 'unstreetable'. It is really all in the setup. There are plenty of 1000+ HP cars that could be a fine daily driver. A lot of it is in the tune and drivetrain setup.

Given the option between the car in question and say, a bone stock 3.8L car...

which would you rather drive to work?
which would you rather go get groceries in?
which would you drive in the middle of a rainstorm?
which would you take over the hill and through the woods to grandma's house?

If you take the sixxer over the car in question, that car's not really streetable. Basically it's a threshold when for normal driving the car is more of a pain in the ass than fun.

Another way to look at it is if you couldn't own it as your only car (barring truck specific needs like hauling/towing), it's no longer streetable.

I really think that term was coined for legal reasons like removing cats, or headlights or tail lights (blinker concerns there) or any other emissions type stuff on the engine/exhaust. Or even the type of fuel used. I think in the last few years it has caught on with more and more peeps and the meaning has gotten a bit loose. Yeah, somebody refers to a unstreetable car I think about the reasons all the other guys listed.... If its a pita to drive on public roads... but I think it got started a bit different,

Just my .02 cents worth!
