if my car was running lean would the engine light come on and give me a code saying it was running lean?

well if it was tuned by a diablo predator, and had a custom email tune put into the car, and say it was running lean, would it give me the engine light.

you can hear it running lean.
it sounds kinda like popcorn .. let off the gas if you hear that sound and throw a higher octane in it.

You can also retard your timing a few degrees (4-6). Worked with mine

ya It will throw a code, belive it was P1131, mine threw it this weekend. Injectors and fuel filter were dirty, cleaned um up, reset the code. 80miles later hasnt come back.

Well mines not making any detonation or pinging sounds, nor is it throwing an engine light or any codes. The only noise my motor makes is the typical mustang tick. The only reason I was asking is because sometimes theres white smoke comming out of my tail pipes, mind you I have an offroad prochamber and longtube headers so that may have some affect on that. But it could have been the temperature the other day, last night after I washed my car it was around 16 degrees celcius and it wasn't smoking so thats more then likely what I think is causing the smoke. Its not like the smoke is that bad anyways, its not like blasting out.

it's probably just the O/R pipes. I'd check your coolant level just to be sure.

If it's tuned too lean it will not throw a code, as the PCM has been programmed to think that the lean setting is the correct AFR. It will only throw a code if it runs leaner than it was programmed to run--this is true in both closed and open loop.

White smoke if the outside temperature is 55° or better is generally a sign of coolant getting into the combustion chamber. If below 50° (depending on RH%) it could be just the normal water vapor that's a by-product of combustion.

It totally depends on the maf curve. If its off on the low end by more than 25% it will throw a code. At WOT there is no way to tell without a wideband and it won't throw a code.

Alright, I'm going on that its just the temperature because I checked it today and it was a nice day and no smoke or nothing. I'd get it dyno tuned but the nearest dyno is roughly a 10 hour drive away. Thanks anyways though.

Oxygen sensors are reading lean

Took my 03 Mustang to get it checked out today because the "check engine" light came on. The car doesn't feel to be running smoothly and feels like it's going to stall at stops (sometimes). Said the oxygen sensor are reading lean

The guy said the engine is either running lean or the sensors are not working and they need to run another test to see exactly what it is.

Any suggestions on something I can do on my own without taking it for the test?

is it only saying one side is lean? or throwing a code? Swap o2s, put the left in the right and right in the left bung. If the code follows replace both o2's (other one will be close behind).

What code is being thrown? There are 7 or 8 "lean" related codes, only 2 of which indicate a bad O2 sensor. Most are a working O2 sensor reporting some other problem...
