They arent too bad to install... Just need a pulley puller and some mechanical knowledge. They best ones replace the whole crank pulley instead of the "piggyback" style ones. I think the Steedas are the replace style

after some research, i found that some builders (like Sean Hyland) actually recommend the piggyback ones because the non-piggyback style ones replace the entire crank pulley, which on our cars also acts as a harmonic damper. if the mass of the crank pulley isn't correct (like on some non-piggyback UDP's), it can lead to premature failure of the oil pump gears, leading to premature failure of your engine. it's rare, but it can happen. the piggyback style ones reuse the stock crank which acts as the harmonic damper. so the mass of the damper is correct because you reuse the one Ford put on there. a lot of people think the piggyback style UDP's are crap or whatever. they're not. there's nothing wrong with them at all. also, you don't need to buy a new belt. the stock one will fit...
i have the March ones btw... |

but the steeda ones you can buy have the sfi approved damper. And to run certain times you need a sfi approved damper which the stock one is not.

steeda worked with ford to get the right damping characteristics. so no harm would be done to your engine.

i wasn't trying to say that the Steeda ones are going to fuck up your engine. i don't think you could go wrong with any Steeda product, but not all UDP's are made to Steeda's standards. on the other hand, to say that all piggyback UDP's are crap is just not true and it misleads a lot of noobs into believing it and then regurgitating the same thing... |

stock, underdrive pulleys are a joke for the minimal gains they produce

steeda is the way to go with underdrive pulleys imo....there is a install video of a guy putting them in his stang and it talks about how steeda worked with ford to make the udps i have had mine in for several months and they have performed with oem quality and a decent gain in power

I have the ASP piggyback style. They are fine no problems.Noticeable powergain. You can reuse the stock belt. I had to use an impact gun to get the altenator and crank pulleys off. Also the kit came with 3 bolts to pull the 2 crank pulleys together but I had the advantage of a hydraulic press, not a necessity, but less time consuming and didn't ahve to worry about pulling the pulleys togther evenly with the bolts. It all about what you think they are worth to what you will spend on them.
