Porting the stock throttle body
I'm looking into porting my stock throttle body, as better flow should help with the turbos. It is a Bullitt so, it already comes with a decent throttle body.
My question is, my friend who has owned his own shop for 25+ years, and has done plenty of porting work (he would be the one porting it), was telling me how there really isn't much of a point in porting the stock throttle body as the tb plate still has to be able to close all the way for proper idle. However, I have heard people talking about decent gains from porting the throttle body. Any comments, experience, specific ways to port? |

i had a friend who ported his bullitts throttle body into a single blade and said it was a HUGE pain, and that i should just spend the money and buy one, because it isnt worth the work for the gain you will get out of porting it

i think you might be hearing of people porting the intake not the throttle bodie. just buy a bigger throttle bodie, and even buying a bigger one isn't going to do much for you, maybe 1-3hp

when porting t/b's, its all in smoothing it out more than opening the bores. the stock twin blade t/b's flow well for most N/A application, but like anything else they can use a little help. i do quiet a few of them,i did the one on doc's mach and it was a nice difference. his is auto and the auto's seem to do a lot better to mods than manuals. not to mention his is a 4v car that can appreciate the t/b work a little more. here is a pic of his. i did mach boy's t/b as well. i did both their intake manifolds too. here is a pic of doc's after i was done with it.
![]() i should have another dual butterfly t/b here any day now. i will be selling it after i get done with it. |

The stock one is fine. If you must have a new one just buy one. Its not worth the hassle at all.

Thanks for the help.
I'm only running 7-8 lbs boost, but im thinking a ported bullitt intake manifold and tb should provide a somewhat decent gain. As i mentioned above my friend will be doing the actual porting, anything I need to tell him to watch out for? |

If you can, keep your intake, it's what makes your car! I'm gonna lose mine when I do my Kenne Bell, but I'm not gonna sell it even though it's worth roughly $800-$1,000. I might go turbo down the road, who knows?

99-01 cobra, 03-04 mach, 03-04 cobra, and bullitt throttle bodies interchange. the stock twin butterfly throttle body moves more than enough air, dont become a restriction until about 15psi of boost depending on set up. a worked over one will yeild good gains and the price is a lot better. no need to spend $350 for something that isnt going to help any more than a p&p'd.
as for what to watch out for, if your porter knows what he is doing, everything is strait foward. the only thing i can think of, is casting flaws. they can get kind of bad underneath the nice finish. dont be suprised if you may see what appears to be a small crack of something, it is just fine. |
