Popping In Steering Column

i have a few problems with my car, maybe someone can help me with. first off there is a popping sound coming from the steering column. second there is a noise coming from the tranny area which sounds like rubbing only when i first come out of gear. third and most annoying is the rear end whinning in the car. can anyone help? there are aftermarket gears.

A few months ago I had the same prob with the steering column, what caused it was the joints in the column were a little loose, just take it in to ford or whatever dealership you got it from and have them take it in if its still under warranty.

i would bet you the whining is from your ring and pinion set or the bearings that go with them, prolly just need to get a bearing kit, while your at it change to 4.10's or 3.73's

Gears do not whine unless they are installed wrong, anyone who tells you different is a complete idiot and should be shot on sight...

Again when installed wrong, do factory gears whine? No. there is not any difference other than the teeth on the ring and pinion..OK. if they whine why is that ? So if I buy a 3.27 rear gear from frpp it will whine when that was stock in my car? I make the gears here in sterling heights, MI. Believe what you want there are no differences. But I want you to tell me you theory as to why they whine.....

I would think it has to do with a number of things such as product quality, machining specifications and installation, however some stock vehicles do make some gear wine.

popping

ok the steering column is a easily fixed, go under the the wheel and you will see a cover pop that off and you'll see some c type bolts holding the column in just tighten them and it will go away.

Anyway I have the same popping in the steering column, particularly when I make left turns at a low speed. I thought I may have dented the lower control arm while jacking the car up but it looks fine, somebody told me it might be the steering rack..regardless, my car is not under warranty. If there was something loose how much do you think Ford would charge me to tighten a few bolts?

I install alot of gears. Both oem stuff at work and performance stuff at home. Not all gears are created the same and can & do make noise even when set up properly. The newer stuff from FRPP stinks!! They are made by Motive gear and do make noise no matter how they are set up. Not bashing you here, but since you work where the oem stuff is made, what happened to the Explorers, F-series, expeditions, and mustang ring and pinions? I seem to replace a lot of them at the dealership due to noise? All the tsb says about the gear sets are they are a "more robust" design..........
