Anyone who may have experience this!! plz help
Ok guys as some of you kno i have been having a serious brake problem since i bought this car last yr i have a 2000 mustang gt but with the cobra brake kit that was put on it when i bought the vehicle last august but ,yea man this brake problem is really hurtin me im at the point where i dont even want to drive it anymore. i had my friend check out what could be the problem to make me get pedal kick back after down shifting as well as my brake pedal pulsating and make a noise at the same time cant seem to find the problem. You guys know how when you make a left turn or your pulling out of a parking space and you hear your power steering pump make a whine noise? well the wierd thing is when i push down on my brake at a stand still thats the noise that it makes but my steering feels fine which is also wierd. Also we popped the hood to try to hear where the noise was mostly coming from so we used a metal pipe and put it on the abs unit you can hear sum noise/rattle then when you apply the brakes, so then we went to the master cylinder u can hear the noise/rattle then while the power steering fluid cap was off it seems if when i apply the brakes the fluid kind of goes at a stand still but once you get off the brake pedal the fluid looks like its flowing fine, but this was the kicker we lastly put the metal pipe on the power steering pump and thats where the noise/rattle was the loudest coming from there, also i notice sum dark oil around the vacuum leading up to the power steering pump, but like i said my steering seems find its just this damn brake pedal kick back when down shifting and the noise/pulsating of the brake pedal, oh and sometimes the brake pedal will feel like im grinding on rocks and wont really let me brake

First off,
The noise is coming from your hydroboost/ mas. cyl unit located in the corner of your engine bay above the driver's side valve cover. Process of elimination. First i'd bleed the breaks entirely. Starting with the valve the FURTHEST away from the master cyl. then moving close. So start with the passenger side rear, then driver side rear, then pass. side front, then driver side front. Then repeat again until there are no air bubbles at all. Make sure the mas. cyl. resovoir doesn't go dry... Then when you're done, bleed the two valves on the master cyl itself. You will need a buddy to pump the pedal for you while you open/close the valves. Or you can buy a one man bleeder kit from any parts store. Hope it helps. |

Another thing is, if the brakes were brand new, you will need to season the brakes. Its quite a long process. When I got my Baer brakes, I forgot to do it and when I pressed the peddal, it trembled and was really hard to brake. Check this out from Baer

My guess is that the noise is coming from your ABS. A similar problem occurred on my 96 Cutlass and my daughters 99 Escape. Both times the notched ring on the axle had cracked giving the system a false reading. Because of the crack the system thought that one wheel was spinning faster than the other so it activated the ABS every time the brakes were applied.

I had to have a shop fix it. On the Cutlass they replaced the axle. On the Escape the had to machine press a new ring (I wish I could remember what its really called.) onto the axle. It will probably cost around $350.

I found better luck with a rubber hose like a radiator hose on find weird sounds(try that), but as for you problem you said that you noticed sum dark oil around the vacuum leading up to the power steering pump, check that out you might have a clogged vaccum, thats the best I can come up with right now, try those things that every one has posted and let us know.

Wow i actually thought i was the only one that has this problem lol, its very annoying but if there was a problem where one of the o rings or tooths broke to the abs wouldnt my abs light come on if so no abs light at all comes on. Is it possible that if theres air in the HCU or in the brake lines that this can cause pedal kick back and that noise and false activating the abs?

Air in the line will cause a soft pedal
