lifter for degreeing

After a few hours of searching I have found nothing but mixed info on using a solid vs hyd. lifter for degreeing. Im trying to figure out which is true before I buy a solid lifter from MMR. Ive read that a solid lifter isnt needed, then the next post will say that one is needed, next post says that it is only needed to chek/test open/close events and not intake center line degreeing.

you can use a collapsed hyd for degreeing by the centerline method(max lift). this is how I did mine and I checked it with a adjustable solid and the measurements where the same. you HAVE to use an adj. solid to degree from the open/close events

Thanks, and by collapsed you mean the lifter is sitting down in the head as far as it can correct? Once again something ive read about but no specifics as to exactly what collaspsed is referring to.
