I put a transgo in my f150 awhile back and it was junk. Went back to stock and then put a b&m in about 5 months ago. The b&m works great but its bit too firm for just general street driving. Even if youre at low rpms taking off from a light when it hits 1-2 it gives you a real good jerk. I put a fairbanks in my 01 mustang about 2 weeks ago and love it. Shifts arent uncomforable when crusing in town like the b&m but when you get on it you can definetly feel it.

hey thanx, i'll check out that fairbanks! the reason i was lookin at the electronic one was because you don't have to remove the trans pan to install, and it has a switch with 2 settings for like 40 bucks.

I read some stuff about those while looking at the kits for the f150. Im not sure how accurate or true it is but I read about them having issues w/ cooking electrical components. I got the fairbanks from ford-aode.com. A lot of people seem to like the "j-mod" as well but I never have been too big of a fan of it as I never could find clear straight foward directions on how to do it.

Are you sure about this?
I know they (Ford) *did* change the accumulator stuff, which was part of the original J-Mod, but I don't believe they enlarged the holes in the separator plate which is the second part of the J-Mod. To the OP all you need from VAP is the separator plate which is in stock I believe. That's where I purchased mine. You don't need to purchase the entire valve body because there is no drilling in the valve body with a J-Mod... Simply drop the pan, drop the valve body and install the J-Modded separator plate and new gaskets, bolt it all together, put in fresh fluid and you are good to go. If you find that you don't like it, just remove the plate and re-install your orignal. Here is the site with everything you need to know about J-Mod. TCCoA Transmission Article - Index BTW I am installing mine this week in my 2003 GT Vert... |

All but one hole in the later 4r7's has been enlarged just like the j-mod. The big shift gain will be a spacer and stiffer spring for the accumulators if you are not wanting to go inside the valve body itself.

I loved the hell out of it. Just don't manualy down shift everywhere you go and you will be fine. I have been in 10 thousand discussions about the trans go kit sux, so and so forth, but I have used them alot and never had a problem. What killed mine was manualy downshifting all the time from high speed. It doesn't have enough fluid pressure to handle it when you aren't in the gas so it eats it up. It was my fault. i will tell you that if you lock up your auto do not drive it. It can create an extreme amount of load on the crank and cause thrust bearing failure. thats what happend to me.
