EGR Solenoid Question

I put vacuum to both ports on the egr control solenoid and neither one would hold vacuum. I assumed it was bad so I went to AutoZone and got a new one. Well the new one doesn't hold vacuum either. So is there supposed to be a vacuum leak here? I'm I missing something?

From the '03 factory shop manual:
EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid

The EGR vacuum regulator solenoid (EVR), (Figure 90) is an electromagnetic device which is used to regulate the vacuum supply to the EGR valve. The solenoid contains a coil which magnetically controls the position of a disc to regulate the vacuum. As the duty cycle to the coil increases, the vacuum signal passed through the solenoid to the EGR valve also increases. Vacuum not directed to the EGR valve is vented through the solenoid vent to atmosphere. Note that at 0% duty cycle (no electrical signal applied), the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid allows some vacuum to pass, but not enough to open the EGR valve.
Hope this helps...

The car is pinging at high RPM at WOT. I've replaced all the sensors on the car at this point and am running a stock tune with 91octane. Still pinging. I have a wideband installed and see 12.4/1 A/F ratio when it pings. I was checking for vacuum leaks when I noticed if I put vacuum to the EGR solenoid it leaked. I thought for sure that this was my problem but everything I've read so far says its OK.
